CATHERINE'S POV

Matt just bored his eyes into mine and showed such an amazing smile that I kissed his lips. "Wild love?" He questioned as I nodded. "That's a fair deal." I closed the argument and portaled to his place. The third week of November, Charlie, Steve, Matt and I were going through the leads we had related to Sebastian's case when Leon portaled to Charlie's apartment, scaring us all. "Some members of the Clave are investigating your involvement in the visit to Speaking Stars' vault." I looked at Charlie who stared at me. "Why would we want to go to Silent City willingly?" Charlie said as she caressed Steve's head. "They are awesome, but they give me the creeps." I added as Leon sat in front of Charlie. "What is in that vault that they want you to see?" Steve spoke as his eyes were closed and a flirty smile covered his lips. "That's a really good question, Captain." Leon teased and Charlie kissed Steve's forehead. "The Mortal Sword is hidden there."

Matt said like it was obvious and we all just stayed frozen, because of Charlie. She was the only one that has actually seen the sword. "What is that?" Steve asked innocently, not really knowing what he had just asked and I saw her walls letting him in without a doubt. Charlie swallowed trying to not think about the last time she saw the sword, so instead of talking, she took his hand and showed him her memories with a rune. As the memory ended, Steve sat up quickly and brought Charlie into his embrace. She just snuggled to him and rested her head on his shoulder for a second before sighing and getting back in the game. I loved seeing them like that and a strange feeling made me think that maybe they were destined to be together and that was the reason why WE found him, which meant he was her soulmate and as I realized that, I did not know how to break the news without her freaking out. "What about the parabatai curse?"

Matt added and we were lost once again and we all got quiet. We did not know anything about a curse, they never told us about it. "The bond is as strong as the tablet stone." He kept talking and we were really lost. Matt looked at all of us before explaining, not really caring that Steve was a mundane. "When the first parabatai rune was created, Heaven sent a backup plan in case parabatai changed sides. If the stone is destroyed with the Mortal Sword, all the parabatai bonds in the world will break." I locked eyes with Matt as I was about to have a panic attack. He just breathed in and motioned me to do the same. I did and we tried to move past that, this was too much for a day. "That's the thing, then." Steve said and Charlie stood up. "These losers are afraid of our bond and will sacrifice every other just to split us up." She paced around and Steve did not know what to do and neither did I. "Luckily, we know that they won't get to do that."

My words brought some peace for all of us and we decided to leave our investigation on hold for a bit, because none of us knew what to do. As Charlie and Steve kept dating, without being together, Matt and I explored his bed, his kitchen, his living room, my room, his bathroom and every place we could have to ourselves. This was exactly what we wanted and needed, but after a few weeks I missed what we had before the booty-calls. We barely talked, we hardly ever read and we spent more time at our beds than having a proper date. So, I just came clean to him. He was part of a really nice chapter of my life and I just wanted to be true to him. As I expected, he felt the same, which meant the break up was not as messy as we had feared. I had learned a lot with him. I knew what I wanted and what I deserved, so I would not settle for less. I loved him, but that love was not enough to stay and keep doing this to us. After a few days, Charlie got into my room making a face.

"Matt just texted me and told me we need to tell Jace about what we found on the Clave." This time, I was the one making a face. We walked to his office and he welcomed us with a smile and a hug. Charlie went to sit on his chair. "What's going on? You're not up for mission report." Charlie took the leads we had out. "Don't freak out, but the Clave is onto us once again."
