CHARLOTTE'S POV

As much I tried to avoid Leon, he kept crossing in my way. And I could manage his jerky ways, but now it was a mixture of things. He looked at me like he wanted to eat me and that was terrifying. His eyes kept darting to my mouth and I really did not know how to act around him, not like he had given me a reason to stay around him. So, when we got to Evelyn's office, I knew shit was about to hit the fan, because she noticed something off about us two and she sent him out, leaving me breathe for the first time since I walked in. When we were on our own, I noticed this weariness on Evelyn, like she was scared of something that was happening within the walls of the institute and I realized for the hundredth time that I should fill Cath in it. There was a reason I had avoided telling Cath about the issue with Leon. I did not want her to look at me with pity in her eyes. Up until now, she did not judge me or my choices.

She was supportive and a great ally and I really did not want her to change that towards me. She had this purified judgment about me and I could finally leave my past related to my parents behind. That was the reason why Jace protected me so much. People still believed that I was part of my parents' mistakes and Jace just wanted to keep me around him so he could show the rest that I was worthy of their trust. But Cath was another whole issue. She did not know anything about my parents or me and I liked that I could be me and not worry about what to say or do so she did not think that I was shady or whatever. As Evelyn talked, I noticed this utter motive of her sudden protection, like she knew something no one else did and by that she was getting overprotective over me and at the same time, she wanted me to show a bit of independence to Cath.

She wanted us to be the best versions of ourselves, but at the same time, we should not catch the attention of the rest. So, we tried our best to just be better and after a few days, I knew Cath was really doing it, because I did not feel bad with the training and I knew I could get to her level. Every night, we just walked around town, enjoying the night and after eating something, we returned to the institute. We had training in the morning and I needed to get better and better at each passing second. The following morning, I woke up and changed clothes to go to have breakfast. Cath woke up a little bit later than I did and we walked to the dining room. There were a few people there and we enjoyed our food and we repeated yesterday's events, with the only change that we went to another concert. Cath had been living under a rock and I was showing her all my mundanes habits.

Two weeks later and my technological diagnostic was done. The one that was extremely behind was the director. So, I made a deal with her, she would have extra lessons by night and she gave me permission to have a few mundane things, such as books, cellphone and music. I already had all that, but she did not know. By the end of August, the combat fest started and all the exchange soldiers had to fight with some of the best of the institute. When I heard that, my glance fell on Leon, who was already looking at me. "He's going to kill me." I whispered to Cath, who just sighed. "You've improved over these weeks, so I'm quite confident you will beat his ass." That made me laugh and I went to the changing rooms to get ready. Cath helped me to stretch and gave me some last-minute tips to enhance my performance. Catherine was completely nervous and that freaked me out.

"I'm going to be fine and even if I lose, I'm going to be fine. So,please, stop freaking out." I held her face as I spoke to her and she sighedand nodded. "I want a full record of all my fights, so we can discuss it later."I added before I left the room and got into the training room. I got in lineand waited for instructions.
