CHARLOTTE'S POV

Once we had mapped out ways to escape and kill those demons, we took our weapons. Just then, we realized that there were about six more people waiting on us. "What are you all doing here?" Catherine asked as I put my jacket on. "We're on your team." Leon said and the rest nodded. "If that's okay with you, clearly." He added and Catherine looked at me as I turned around looking to the rest of the team. "You really need to follow our instructions." I said as I pointed at Catherine and myself. We all walked out of the room and we found Evelyn on the door. "Who's in charge?" She asked and they all looked at me, as I was fixing my stele. "Have a nice mission. Stay safe." After that, they all followed me as I opened a portal. Everyone was impressed that I had that ability. Once we were in the exact place the breakout had happened, we assessed the situation. I asked for opinions and as we were joining our input to trace a strategy, a demon came out.

As we recognized the type, we all took battle position and just did what we had already planned. The team worked properly and I was super happy about that. Once the demon was killed, we closed the riff to avoid more demons crawling out of it. As we now knew what we were fighting against, we sent messages to the rest of the soldiers and just kept the surveillance going. Our team was formed by eight people and we divided in a 3-3-2 line up. Three were on the right, three on the left and two over the buildings. Catherine and I were jumping over the buildings to check on the streets in the middle. By the end of the night, we had hunted about twenty demons and we returned to the institute, where I found that someone had taken my laptop. "We have a problem." I mentally talked to Cath, who had gone straight to our room as I went to the surveillance room to retrieve our things, but my laptop and phone were gone.

I walked back to our room, bumped into Leon, who was completely worn out and went to his room without telling me why he was so tired. As I walked into the room, I saw Catherine, who looked at me, faking confusion. "The Clave themselves came here to congratulate us for our marvelous and quick work tonight." I looked at her hands as I got inside the room and she had my laptop and my phone, so I just played along. "Oh, yeah. It was a team work, actually." I said, offering them a smile. "Well, I'm on my way back to Idris." The lady said and after checking every single inch of our room, she left. "There's something weird, but don't talk about it, they are using their runes to check on us." Catherine spoke to my mind and I was mad that I could not put music to make them go away. We both stayed in silence as we tried to forget the whole thing. I took my phone and texted Jace. I knew that he would protect me from the Clave, whatever happened.

"Tomorrow, I'm going to New York, I need some back-up and I don't really know who to trust anymore." I replied to her mind and she just nodded. "It has been a long day, let's rest." She said out loud and I nodded. "Good night, Cath." I said and I sent another encrypted text to Jace. I had always been scared of the Clave and if they were onto me or Cath, Alec should have told me, unless this was an internal investigation and he did not know a thing. Jace replied and he said that he would keep me safe, even if he had to die. That struck me, because no one had to die for me. I needed to think that this was just a misunderstanding. They had to be wrong. I had never done something wrong, I had always tried to follow the rules, so I really did not know what this was all about. As the hours got by, I could not sleep at all. I was shocked over all this. The Clave had fucked my old institute and now they were planning something and Sebastian's death was part of it.

I really did not know how to feel about it. Was he really killed by Jonathan or the Clave had something to do there too and if they did, I would not rest until I got to the bottom of it. I owed it to my cousin and I needed to know if his death had been part of something bigger or if he had just been in the wrong place at the wrong time.
