CATHERINE'S POV

I was on my own for the first time in a year and it felt weird. The room looked empty without her things. I used a rune to fix everything the way it was before her arrival and I started to pack my own things. I felt like my life would start for real when I got to New York. There will not be as many rules as in London and I liked that thought. Leon got into the room a while later and he looked disappointed when he realized that she was gone. "She broke up with her boyfriend, so she kind of ran away." I explained, not really sure if he had to know that. "Was she okay, though?" I sighed, because I knew she would not be okay anytime soon, but I had to believe that she was going to be okay. "She'll be fine." After a few minutes, I kept packing my bags and he helped me, saying that there was some stuff that I will not need and some others that I can buy there, which emptied half of my suitcase.

By midnight, he said goodbye and left, leaving me alone once again. I went to bed and got ready emotionally for a new chapter. The week went by and I was so ready to go. Charlie had been sleeping at the institute all nights, but leaving really early in the morning, so we really could not speak too much. My last day in the institute started pretty normal, we all had breakfast and as I did not have to train anyone, I was in surveillance duty all morning. I checked the servers, just as Charlie told me and by lunch time, the whole institute had changed. There were decorations and music, it was so nice and everyone had a smile on instead of a frown. We had lunch and had a nice time off, until the alarm went off and we ran to the meeting room. "There's a demon downtown and apparently an open rift. We know the drill, don't give the Clave the satisfaction of calling another institute to do the job. Take care."

Evelyn's words were related to Charlie's departure, but as she said, we had already done this before, so we needed to prove we were the best. I took Charlie's plan of action and mapped out the routes of escape, then we took some weapons and finally, we portal ourselves downtown. The sun was getting really low and darkness was appearing. We walked protectively around the block and when we found the demon, we all neutralized it and killed him as some other residents closed the rift, it was small one, so we did not need a warlock, but just in case, I called one. We got back and I went to shower before having dinner and when I got into the dinning room, there was a banner congratulating us for starting a new path away from home. I snapped a picture of it and sent it to Charlie, who sent another picture back, she was at a party with Tony in New York. I laughed and just enjoyed my own party.

The following morning, I had breakfast and waited for the warlock to portal me to New York. It was almost eleven in the morning in London, when the warlock arrived and I was the first one to go. I said goodbye to Evelyn, Vallery and Leon and left. It was six in the morning, local time when I arrived to the institute and before I could walk to the entrance, a car stopped a few meters away and Charlie got off of it acting to be drunk. "Follow the game." She spoke to my mind and I let her be, helping her when she was about to fall. "Welcome to New York." She told me once the car left. "Who was that?" I asked as she sighed and we walked to the institute. "That was Tony." We had told Tony that we did not get drunk, so she was not being honest with me, but either way I followed her lie. "By the way, there was a new construction on the institute, so now you get your own room." I chuckled and we walked inside. I had almost forgotten how beautiful this was.

"You have to go to the reception and they will lead you to the next step. I'm not supposed to be here this late or early, so I can't really go with you. Now, I'm off to sleep for a while." I giggled and she vanished. I stayed a few more seconds outside, just to enjoy this new chapter and when I was ready to start, I did what she told me.
