CATHERINE'S POV

January first and Charlie got to my room still with her dress from last night. It did not take much to decipher that she had spent the night with Steve. "Walk of shame on the first day of the year. I got to applaud that one." I joked as she just rolled her eyes and let me tease her about her night out. "How was your night with Matt?" She asked with a smirk and I just sighed. "He's really good. He reads a lot too, so we're actually reading each other's favorite books." Charlie looked at me like I was another person and I smiled at that. "He makes me feel things and I feel protected, maybe?" Charlie nodded and hugged me. "If you're happy, then I'm happy. Just remember that your time is limited so do as you wish and have fun!" Of course, she would advise something like that. It was then, when Jace got in the room with a frown on his face. "Oh. You were here." He spoke directly to Charlie and I waved at him. "Why are you wearing that?" He asked confused.

"We have this event for Snapchat." I said as I picked some dress and got to the bathroom. "Dude, thank you." She said when I got out. "It wasn't a lie. We actually have a Snapchat event. So, fix your makeup and let's go." Charlie made a face, but did what I told her to do. We walked out of my room and Jace was there with a casual suit. "I'm not letting you around that lunatic again." He said and Charlie smiled. "So, you're going to be my date?" Jace smirked and I rolled my eyes. If I did not know them better, I would say they were soulmates. "If you're taking a date, I'll call mine." I replied as Jace looked at me confused. "Yeah, she's pre-dating someone." Charlie explained and two minutes later, I had the confirmation I wanted. "We're picking him up, so let's go." Jace looked like he had just lost a battle. "Please tell me is not some reformed villain." His words made us laugh. "He's actually a faerie, he's really good, so please, don't be you."

Jace opened and closed his mouth to defend himself, but he knew that we were right. "Okay, but do I know him? Tell me is not Meliorn." We laughed and then the car stopped and the door was opened. "Jace, this is Matt." Matt held his hand out and Jace seemed impressed. "Approved?" I asked directly to his mind and Jace smiled and nodded. We kept talking about our days and after a while, we got to the place. The driver opened the door and the first one to get off was Jace and he helped us. "You look even more beautiful today." Matt said and kissed my cheek. Charlie was smiling as she kept Jace busy so he would not bother us. "You don't look too bad either." My words were received by a kiss and we started following Charlie and Jace. Justin was welcoming every single one of the guests and when he saw us, he got lost on Charlie. "Babe!" He greeted and Charlie went to hug him as Jace tried his best to be cool with the situation.

"I've missed you." Charlie said as she stopped hugging him. Immediately Jace snaked his hands to Charlie's waist and she smiled at him. "Justin these are our dates, Jace and Matt." Justin shook their hands and let us in, although he asked Charlie for a minute alone and she complied. "Jace, she knows what she's doing, stop being an ass." Jace nodded and tried his best to behave. Five minutes later, Charlie came back with two envelopes on her hands, she handed me one. "I need a drink." She said and walked to the bar. She used the blocking rune and drank a few shots. "What happened?" Jace asked me and I opened the envelope. "You're kidding me." I said in a whisper and Jace took the thing from me as I walked to my parabatai. "You okay?" She nodded as she kept drinking. "I just feel weird. It's like every guy that I break things off with, finds the love of his life right after me. When is going to be my turn?" Another drink and she activated her runes.

"I'm okay. It was just the shock." It was like she could not be standing, because bad news brought her down immediately and she was tired. "I'm happy for him, of course and she looks like a really nice woman, but I want to be completely happy too." I understood that and I asked the Angel for that too.
