CATHERINE'S POV

There was complete silence after that and Evelyn was trying to hide her own smile. I was confused by that. "Can you be more explicit?" I asked and the guard looked for the code on his manual. "I'm sorry ma'am, but the Law 44 was derogated centuries ago." The guard told loud enough for us to hear and the lady from the Clave's face fell. "What?" She said and none of us knew what that meant. That clearly meant that she was not from the Clave, but we had to keep acting like we had not noticed that. "I'm lost here. What's going on?" Charlotte questioned and just then Evelyn took a book out and read out loud. "Law 44, Code 88, Article 22 says the following. If any of the residents is found in promiscuous attitudes, said soldier will have to face the Clave's trial and eventually marry the third party associated to the act. You can clearly see why it was derogated." We were still in silence, because we did not know what to do.

All I knew was that after this, the lady would not rest until she had Charlie on trial for something. Jace was hidden, but I could feel his annoyance without even looking at him. "We apologize for this misunderstanding." The guards said and walked off premises. "I'm going to be in the Motorpoint Arena tonight, just in case you want to accuse me of something I haven't done." Charlotte's words reverberated in the room as the lady stormed off, grunting. "You really need to give a step back, she might not have succeeded this time, but she will keep trying. Even if she's onto you, she's your superior and you shouldn't talk to her like that. I'll let it slide this time, because we all were mad, but I won't tolerate that again." Charlotte nodded and apologized right away. "Why are you going to be in Sheffield tonight?" She asked and we showed her the notifications we got and immediately, she called to an emergency meeting.

She ran out of our room and Jace took off his glamour. "You wanna explain?" Charlie rolled her eyes, took her stele and shared her memories with him. "So, nothing happened?" He questioned and Charlie nodded. "I'm not a cheater. You should know that by now." Jace smiled and brought her closer to him and hugged her and they shared a few whispered words to each other. After that, Charlie opened the portal for him to go home. As she closed it, the alarm went off, so we walked to the meeting room. "Fellows Shadowhunters, we're under attack." The gasp was heard around the room and I did not know if this was a good idea. "I just sent one of us to some retreat as he was being used to spy on us in exchange of yin fen. As it was his second fault, the Clave will handle the situation." We knew how they would handle it, so we were not very happy about it. She had reported it, even when we did not know anything about it.

Charlie kissed Leon's shoulder and then we kept paying attention to Evelyn. "Who is in charge of the notifications related to missions and stakeouts?" Some guys raised their hands and Evelyn smiled. "Did any of you send a mission for tonight in Sheffield?" They took their tablets and checked their system. "There is a mission, but we did not assign it." My heart started beating fast and Charlie held my hand. "Can you find out who did?" I found myself speaking and they tried to do it. "Let me do it." Charlie offered as she connected to the system. It was not really a surprise to see that the order had come from the Clave. "Okay, here's what we're going to do." Charlotte said and before she kept talking, she looked at Evelyn. "Sorry, I'm not assigned to do that." Evelyn nodded. "You're not, but this is your mission, Charlie." As Evelyn said that, Charlotte started explaining that we were following The Clave's instructions, but we would add some twists into it.

We would need a team of at least eight people, including Charlie and I. We would use some tricks that we had learnt by watching Harry Potter as we would be taking another people's bodies and hopefully, we would save the day and ourselves. We had a few hours to pull this off and no one was allowed to actually talk about this.
