CATHERINE'S POV

When I woke up, I was nervous and my body ached, meaning I was not okay. After breakfast, we were called to the director's office and there was Leon and some other soldier. I wanted to hit Leon so bad, but I held myself back. Evelyn looked around and stopped at Leon. "Thirty seconds to explain what happened and why you filled a complaint against these two soldiers." And so, Leon started explaining step by step everything that had happened last night, describing with lots of details our 'mistakes' and all. "Okay, Mr. Verlac, you may go." Leon threw a small smirk at Charlie and went out. That freaked me out, did this count as a fault and meant she needed to leave? Then, it was the time of Vallery to explain what had happened. "As soon as we got to the place, Leon guided us to the demon, but no one knew what we were fighting against. Not until the girls' mapped out a plan and they killed the demon on their own."

She was not helping us so much and I got angry for it. "So, yeah, they were not following orders, but they did everything it was needed to do their job." Charlie held my hand and squeezed it as I was not breathing. I was about to have a panic attack. I snapped out of my thoughts when the soldier left the room. "I should punish you for not following instructions and not working as a team." The director started and I knew Charlie was leaving. "But, you two worked as a team and followed your training protocols to finish that demon, so I can't quite blame you for not having a good leader." Her words made me feel empowered and happy. "That does not mean you don't have to be careful. There are a lot of people that want to see you fail, so don't let them bring you down." She meant those words for Charlie and she just looked down, what was she not telling me? What was really happening here?

"Be careful, Miss Verlac." We nodded and left the office as soon as she cleared us out and called Leon in again. Charlie and I acted like we had been scolded, just so Leon believed we were sad. Once he was inside the office, we ran to our room and got ready to train. Charlie did not mention anything about that cryptic comment Evelyn had made and although I wanted to know exactly what was going on, I could not make myself force her to tell me, so I acted like I had not caught it. So instead of worrying about what she was not telling me, I made a new training chart. Now, more than ever, I needed to help Charlie to be even better. Unlike yesterday, we started with endurance and resistance exercises, just to work her muscles and we would be working on that for two months, instead of focusing on jogging every day in longer routes. So, we trained, harder every day.

Every afternoon, Charlie gave intense technological classes and by night, we would sneak out of premises to know London and Charlie would take us to concerts, because she missed them. We would fight every now and then, just to prove to ourselves that this was awesome. Charlie was competing on the combat fest in a few weeks and I wanted her to win. Especially if there was a possibility for her to fight Leon and if that happened, he would not have mercy for her and to be honest, none of the London residents should have, because we were supposed to show them that they could be better. I knew Leon would bring her down, but not to show her that she could be better, he would do it just to show her that he was better. So, I had to put Charlie through everything I knew and more and leave the everything else in pause, just so she could manage a possible round with Leon. By just thinking about it, I panicked. Leon was a great soldier.

He had a good fighting technique. He lacked conviction since Sebastian'sdeath, but now it looked like he would not give up, until bringing Charliedown. Like that mere possibility brought him a reason to live or to feel betterand I was completely lost again. Because up until now, I did not know that heeven cared for Sebastian. So, I was extremely confused as to what was going on.
