CATHERINE'S POV

Jace had lots of folders on his desk and he seemed stressed. "What's going on?" I questioned him as he just sighed. "I'm worried for Charlotte, she acts all tough and stuff, but she's hurting and the Thor issue broke her and I don't know how to help her without the rest of the institute saying that I have preferences." He was really worried and I just stared at him. "She's doing great. He hurt her, but it was not just that. It was everything related to her last year and you telling her that her boy-choices are bad are making her second-guess every single move." Jace looked distant and then he just stared me back. "That's why I gave her the S.H.I.E.L.D assignment, she needs to be busy." I nodded. "But still, you kicked her when she was already on the ground, that hurt her even more than Thor." After that, Jace activated his focus rune and he glanced at me. "I called you in to talk about the Combat fest, so I can organize everything." I smiled at that.

"The Combat Fest is a competition where you test the soldiers' fighting abilities. In this case, soldiers would have to fight me and Charlie. We usually make three dates with just random fights, in December, February and April before the final one in June. The last one gives the soldier the certification of fighting in an upper level." He hummed understanding the goal of the fest. "What about the runes or weapons?" His question made me recall what had happened in my institute. "After Charlie's attack, Evelyn came up with another rune that blocks the other runes and obviously no weapons. Just old-fighting." The smirk he showed was mixed by pain, but I laughed. "I'm not letting you win, so, train." I advised and stood up. "I'll handle the fest and Charlie; you worry about the institute." He sighed relieved and hugged me. "You're the best." I giggled. "I learned from the best." My comment made him laugh. "I'll give you the plan after Thanksgiving."

As he nodded, I walked out his office. I went to my room and organized the fest and paired everyone with a tough rival, so they could see that they had to step up their game. All that made me rearrange my own timeline related to the workshop and I would step it up so they had a real challenge. I knew Charlie would be thrilled to beat some of the jerks of the institute so she would not need much convincing. Maybe I could even call Leon and a few others to help us out too, so that we had more rivals. But, before calling Leon, I had to talk to Charlie about it. I did not know what he had written in that letter, but Charlotte had been really weird after that. Maybe it was related to Justin or maybe she just coped like that, either way, I had to talk to her. So, I went to her room, it was a surprise to find it empty. I stayed there and kept organizing everything. I was so busy thinking on the fest that it was a big surprise when Alec sat down next to me.

"By the Angel!" I gasped and he chuckled. "Dude!" He shook his head as he kept laughing. "Where's your shadow?" He asked and I shrugged. "Is everything okay between you two?" I nodded smiling. "We're more than okay. Sometimes it's a bit much, but we're handling all these moods swings as best as we can." I had to keep the excuse Charlie gave, otherwise questions would be directed to us and my emotional side was not ready to face an interrogation. I really hated to talk about her behind her back, but they were still worried about her, even when they knew she could handle it. "I know." Alec added with a smile. "You both may be the greatest pairing I have ever witnessed and I'm happy for you two. That energy after the ceremony was a never-seen-before for me, so I'm happy for that." He threw his arm over my shoulders and peaked over my work. "What is that?" His question made me smile and forget about the energy of the ceremony.

"Combat Fest. Wanna participate?" He nodded not very convinced and then I went to explain him all about it. After a while, he stood up and left the room. And the thing about that energy thing returned to my brain, did that mean something else? And if it did, what did it mean? Was it good? Was it bad? Why no one was talking about it? Should we investigate it?
