CATHERINE'S POV

By dinner time, everyone had arrived and we were led to the dining room. When they called my name, I smiled as Jace walked the stairs to help me down. "She's Catherine and she's from the London Institute, she will be our Combat Master. Welcome to New York." As he kept introducing the rest, I texted Charlie. She replied immediately that she had just gotten out of the shower, but that she would be next to me in five minutes. Charlie sat down next to me exactly when Jace finished talking and her neck looked weird. "What's with your neck?" I asked and she took her cellphone out. "Damn." She activated her iratze and the purple mark disappeared just as Jace sat down. We had dinner and then they took me to my room. Jace left and I stared at Charlie. "What's going on?" I asked and she just sighed. "I'm on special assignment. Remember the guy Tony told us that attacked him a while ago?" I nodded and she just sighed.

"Well, I'm on babysitting duty. I have to avoid him hurting Tony or Pepper at all costs." I stared at her, and she stared back at me. There was something she was withholding and I did not know if I wanted to know. "Leon sent this to you, by the way." She face-palmed herself. "I totally forgot about him, with all the issue with Thor, I just." I nodded, I could only imagine what she felt and as I wanted her to talk about it, I would not press her. "You look tired, so we'll talk in the morning." She said as she checked her phone and left. By the next morning, Jace called me to his office and he started recording our interview. "Miss Ashdown, you're going to be in charge of the Combat Workshop and whenever Miss Charlotte Verlac is free, she will assist. You also are subscribed to the Technological Workshop. Here's your schedule and if you have any doubt, don't hesitate to ask me or your partner directly." I looked down to my schedule and it looked empty.

"Wait, the Combat Workshop is just three times a week, is it correct?" Jace smiled and looked at my schedule. "That is correct. The year off in New York is about making connections more than just teaching others what you do best. So, on Tuesdays and Thursdays you have some time off, unless a mission requires your attention. On Saturdays we do group dynamics to reinforce our bonds and on Sundays we try to not think too much." I was shocked. This was nothing compared like London and I did not know what to do with that information. My brain was too surprised to do something else. "You're free to go now, Miss Ashdown." As he turned off the camera, I looked at him. "Those are too many days off. I'm going to drive myself crazy!" He chuckled and shook his head. "You have all that time off, but that doesn't mean you won't do anything. You have to find what to do in that time." That had so much more sense. I sighed relaxed and stood up.

"What's up with Charlie?" I asked as I walked to the door. "She's on a special mission, but she's about to end it, so don't worry. Now, do you think that it would be okay if we have the ceremony tomorrow?" His question left me more lost than everything. "What ceremony?" He looked down and sighed. "I'm going to kill her. She was supposed to tell you last night." I shook my head and he guided me to the couch. "If you're okay with it, you can have the parabatai ceremony tomorrow. If you don't do it soon, you'll mess up the timeline." His words made my heart explode, but I was still lost. "What timeline?" Jace chuckled and put a calendar on the table. "Look, to be parabatai, you need to spend at least a year with said person. You did that as she was with you 24/7 for a year. After the ceremony, you have to spend two whole years with each other. So, you have to do it soon as next year Charlie plans to leave premises." I did not know what to say by now.

"I'm more than okay with the ceremony tomorrow." Jace smiled and caressed my hand. "Is there anyone you want to invite?" He questioned timidly as he took a pen. "Evelyn, Vallery and Leon." I said immediately and he chuckled. "Okay, we'll get everything ready. Now, go to rest and see you in a bit."
