CATHERINE'S POV

To my surprise, Charlie actually won. I mean, I knew she was good, but she had gotten really good and I was so proud of her as she felt proud of me, for teaching her and pushing her. And yet, she was the only exchange soldier that had won, meaning I was doing a great job. I have never seen such dramatic fights than the ones like today. Everyone was on Leon's side and I felt like I was missing something. They did not know Charlie and she had not done anything bad since she got here, so I did not understand why everyone wanted to beat the hell out of her. Once every exchange soldier had fought with some resident of the institute, the director went up the mat and suddenly, we all were quiet. She called all the exchange soldiers and they stood next to her. "That was a very nice demonstration of your abilities. Keep training because this is the first tournament, next month we have another one and who knows, maybe you get your so-called pay-back."

I knew who she was talking about, but I still did not know the why. "All I have to say right now, is that every single resident needs to step up. We're the second-best institute related to combat techniques; we need to keep that up." She was right, we were the second-best and yet a few newcomers had been able to kick our asses with just a few weeks of training. "You're dismissed." She ended and soon enough we all cleared the place. "What is going on?" I asked Charlie as soon as we closed the door of our room, because I really could not stay in the dark any longer. "Cath, I promise that I will tell you all about it as soon as I take a shower." Charlie said and took her top off and I saw a very nasty cut on her abdomen. "What the hell happened?" I screamed and she just took her stele out and activated her iratze rune, but unlike other times, it did not do anything, which was odd, but she did not say anything, so I just let it go.

"That moron used his runes and this happened." She excused herself like she was to blame and I went to the bathroom to get a small towel and clean the blood that was around the wound. "I'll let him slide this one, just because I won either way." She added and let herself fall on her bed and eventually the blood stopped getting out of her body. "I need to call Jace." She took her phone out and made the video call. Jace answered right away, even with the time difference. "You look like shit." He said and I chuckled. "Nice eyes." I yelled from the bathroom to wash out the blood from the towel. "I know her like the back of my hand, I know every single tic from her." He showed that winning smile and Charlie stood up from her bed. "Why are you not wearing a shirt?" He questioned and I caught a glimpse of her factions. "What happened, Charlie?" He kept digging and she just sighed.

"Today was the first Combat Fest and I fought. I'm just worn out." She explained and Jace smiled. "Did you win?" His question made her chuckle and Charlie nodded. "That's my girl! Anyway, I know how cranky you get after fighting, so I'll let you go so you can rest." Jace's words were considered and that made me smile. "I'll call you tomorrow, love you, dude." Jace reciprocated and then, Charlie was locked in the bathroom. I heard her vomiting and groaning while the water fell. "Are you okay?" I questioned and she hissed. "Yeah. The water is just too hot." I hummed and got back to my book as I waited for her to tell me everything. After a while, she got out wearing her underwear and lay down on her bed. "Okay, make yourself comfortable, because I'm going to tell you everything." And so, she started talking about Sebastian and the connection she had with Leon. The why of his dislike was out of this world and I felt bad for her.

"Seb was a real nice guy and it sucks that he is not around." Charlie twisted a smile and just shrugged it off. "He always talked about how awesome you are." I said and after a few seconds in silence, she covered her body and slowly, fell asleep. She kept groaning throughout the night, so I activated her iratze, thinking she was in pain. Eventually, I fell asleep.
