CHARLOTTE'S POV

When Evelyn said those words, I looked at them and I did not know how to react and a tiny and annoying sensation itched the scar, making me remember what had happened, but if Evelyn let them come back, that meant they were okay, so I had to be okay too. Catherine was mad, I could tell that by the way she walked to our usual table. I just put my hand over hers and let her know that I would be okay. "You've trained me well, so I won't get hurt again." I explained as Cath just nodded not very convinced. "The next Combat Fest is coming, so we better get ready for that." Just then, Cath nodded and after breakfast we went up to train, I was ready, but I could not trust myself too much, I still had energy issues. The days went by and our schedule changed again. As the tech workshop was over, Catherine and I were sent into night surveillance. We fought a few demons and did a great job. We were a good team.

"In a scale of one to ten, how much do you like Bruno Mars?" I asked her from my bed. "Bruno what?" Her knowledge on mundane music was terrible. "Never mind, we're going either way." Her face showed confusion and I just laughed at her. Bruno Mars had a concert in London tonight and we were going. I put a glamour and jumped out the window, it was too risky to portal ourselves to the concert. We used our invisibility rune and enjoyed the concert in the front. When the concert ended, we returned to the institute and rested to start a new day. The night before the Combat Fest, we were on surveillance duty and as we looked at the screens, Cath looked unfocused. "What's going on?" I questioned after a while. "Do you think I could be someone's parabatai? Like, could someone choose me?" I smiled at that and nodded. "Okay, first of all, you're not a Pokémon to be chosen." I said the same Izzy once told me.

"Remember that having a parabatai is about having a connection with this other person. It's more than the bond of the rune. Otherwise, everyone would have one." Catherine blinked twice, like she had the sudden realization that not everyone had a parabatai and that was okay. "I just feel like I need someone by my side to make me better. Or just to push me further, you know?" I nodded because in reality, she needed that push, but I was not sure if a parabatai would be enough, because she had to do that on her own. "We have up to 25 to find a parabatai, if not, you can just look for someone that pushes you enough to do what you want and need." Cath just stood up in front of me. "Stand up." She told me and I frowned, but did as she said. A second later, Catherine was hugging me. I smiled at that, because finally, after six months, she was letting me in and she was comfortable with that.

"Someday, you'll be somebody's parabatai and you'll be great at it." I whispered and she hugged me tighter. The day of the Combat Fest arrived and I was not nervous at all. I knew how to fight and Cath had made my technique better, so I was not afraid to fight, but I was a bit concerned about another stab. Evelyn knew that, so she started checking every soldier and used a new rune to block our powers. So, whenever we got into the ring, we were just normal people. Unlike last time, today would not fight the whole institute. Today fought the newcomers, grounded soldiers and a few others. Within that group, was Leon and his friend and of course, me. I tried to relax and just have my mind clear, because I needed it, otherwise I would lose. The fest started and my name came up by the middle. I walked towards the ring and after blocking my runes and checking if I had another weapon, I stepped into it. Then, they called my opponent.

To my surprise, it was Leon. Everyone gasped and it was followed by silence. He seemed surprised and he took a few seconds to actually walk towards the ring. Evelyn blocked his runes and checked for weapons. Then, he stood next to me. The bell gave us the start and I just watched him before making a move. He was assessing me too, and then he threw the first punch.
