CHARLOTTE'S POV

Jace had trained me in the worse possible scenario when it came to demons and he always repeated the three steps. Recognize, localize and attack. Whenever there was a disruption and it was a demon, we were free to kill the bastard, but when said demons managed to possess any member of the Shadow World, I just could not. That was the reason why I had reached out to Tony Stark, so we could send those demons back to hell and hopefully save the hosts. So, when Leon Verlac stupidly started attacking that demon with no plan, I knew I had to act. If I would have been on my own, I would have been that stupid, but I would not risk my peers' lives for my pride. Our job was to protect everyone. We prepared ourselves to fight. We all went to the spot where there was a mundane dead and as some of the soldiers stayed there trying to cover everything up, we all went to fight the demon.

I was already annoyed by the fact that Leon was in charge, not because he disliked me, but he clearly did not know how to organize an attack. His plan was to fight the demon without even considering what it was. I, on the other hand, wanted to know what we were facing first and then attack, just like Jace had taught me, so we did. I watched as the soldiers that followed Leon got hurt and then I had a glimpse of the demon. "Remember how we trapped the demon back in New York?" I whispered to Cath, who was scared next to me. She nodded and I looked for a few things in my pocket. "We're doing the same. You'll go for the right and I will go for the left. Make sure you throw this at the demon before fighting it." Just then Catherine seemed to stop fearing and got into soldiers' mode. "Be safe." We both said and run to our positions as Vallery kept the rest from coming near.

We got closer as we heard Leon and his soldiers yell at us that we should not disobey the orders. I looked back and then I glanced back at Catherine, she was okay with our choice and we kept going. Once we were close enough, we threw the dust over the demon and we killed it after a few seconds. As I looked over Cath, she was happy and I let myself be happy too. Leon was not happy at all. "I told you the day you arrived. This is not your city. You don't belong here and you will never do, so pack your bags and leave already. Nobody wants you here." His words hurt a lot, but Jace's words came back. 'Don't let him get under your skin.' So, I did exactly that. I put a smile on my face and took a sample of the demon. "You're gonna regret this." He kept talking and after a while, I was done with him. "Yeah? What are you going to do to me? Huh?" He gave a step closer and out of the blue, he started looking at my lips.

"You think you scare me?" I kept teasing, just then he gave a step back. "You don't scare me, because you don't know how to plan an attack, so don't give me all that now." As soon as I ended saying that, Cath and Vallery just took my hands and took me out of there, otherwise I would keep talking and I would regret it later. We all went back to the institute and when we got there, Catherine and I were cited to the director's office at first time in the morning. "If anything, blame me." Cath said and I chuckled as I caressed her hand. "We both know they won't believe that." She looked down as I just caressed her hand. "I'm okay with my decision and I'm glad everyone saw Leon being an idiot, so don't worry." As I was saying that, I was texting Jace to let him know about what had happened and his response was exactly the one I was waiting. "Come home." I smiled at that, because he was just such an amazing big brother.

Cath and I went to bed and slept; we were drained from that fight. We did not want to deal with our choices right now, we just wanted to enjoy the fact that we had killed a demon and even if they kicked me out, I was proud of how Cath had handled everything. She was developing this new personality and I was glad to witness.
