CATHERINE'S POV

I woke up at midnight as I had a little nightmare. I did not remember anything about it, but the feeling of desperation lingered for a while. I stared at the ceiling as I tried to think what was going on. Suddenly, a flash of images filled my mind, but I still could not figure it out what was happening. I cried myself to sleep and I woke up a while later, this time the feeling was even worse than before, but this time my thoughts went to Charlotte. I sat in bed and looked at her bed. She was not there. Before I started panicking, I went to the Greenhouse, but she was not there. I ran to the training room, but she was not there either. I went to the control room, but Charlie was not there either. I tried the kitchen, but the one in charge said she had been there around midnight, I looked at the time and it was two in the morning. Where was Charlie? I went to my room and tried to stay up in case she came back.

I could not even phantom the idea of her going back home because of some idiot that cheated on a tournament. After a little, I fell asleep and I just hoped she came back soon. "What the hell?" I jumped when I felt someone in my bed. "Evelyn just told me to chill out and to not take into account what the rest of the institute thinks of me as I'm in a higher rank than most of them." Charlie explained as I nodded and listened to her words in silence, just squeezing her hands when she was too frustrated. "You're going to be okay, so, don't worry." After that, we went back to sleep as it was still sleeping time. By the time I woke up, Charlie was on the phone and for what I heard, she was complaining to Jace about something he had done. "I know and I love you even more for that, but please, let me go." She begged and after a little bit, she thanked and hung up. "Good morning, sleepy head. You're late." I groaned and ran to the shower.

We had breakfast just like any other day, but today was different as the previous day. First, Charlie was really pale and her movements did not match her body and it took her a lot to even breathe. Then, Evelyn stood and everyone was quiet. "Yesterday's events caught some irregularities on the fights." She started and Charlie looked at me asking if I had mentioned to anyone the wound she had gotten, I shook my head to say no. I would not dare to betray her trust. "And I'm very disappointed to mention that one of our own used their runes to fight and injured one of the soldiers." The gasp was heard across the room as we all knew that we were not supposed to use our magical power to fight. "These soldiers involved in this fiasco, will be punished. That's all." As she stood up, she went to sit down and slowly, the whispers got a bit louder. I looked at Charlie and she just stopped eating.

"Can we train now?" Her question surprised me, she was not fan of training and yet, she just wanted to get out of there as the whispers started including her name. People were starting to say that she was the one using her runes, which was the only explanation everyone found reasonable for her winning to one of us. We both stood up and walked to the training room and started fighting. Charlie was angry and her punches were a bit slower than ever before and I wanted to use that, but I was too shocked to say anything. After a while, she went to the trash can and threw up, just like every other day. I did not know how to help her, unlike Charlie, I was not good managing crisis. "Relax, I'm just trying to wrap my head around all this." She talked and I sighed relieved. "I feel bad for this." I spoke and she just groaned. "Please don't. You were the only one that didn't look at me with pity in the eyes, so please, don't." I looked at her confused.

"I don't pity you." Charlie looked up to me, extremely confused. "You're the one that has all this going one and still, you're the one lowering down my panic attacks." She giggled and that made me relax. Charlotte had this unique way to calm me down and I appreciated that she had gotten into my life.
