CATHERINE'S POV

After all the information I had gotten tonight, I could not fall asleep. I never imagined that I would have to pay extra attention to my fellow exchange roommate and yet, all I wanted was to be aware of everything, so I could help Charlie stay for the whole year. She will have a long ride to get accustomed to our mannerisms and reactions, but no matter what, I would help her. Before the Global Meeting I had thought that every institute was the same, but it was not. As New York was more about freedom, London was more about controlling our actions to be polite, but deadly. The following morning, we had breakfast and I sent Charlie first to the training room, so I could put a soundless rune on and I could scream as I was freaking out for the mere possibility of them taking Charlie away. I needed to be relaxed to be alert on everything related to Charlie. I walked out of the room and found her lost on the stairs, when she explained I felt terrible.

I never gave her the tour of the castle. We stretched and went on her first jog ever. She was sweating when we got back, but not as tired I thought she would be. Just then, we started the real training. She was good, but I was better and I knew she could get better, so I pushed her even harder. By the end of the first part, she was on the floor and I let her go just because it was her first day. We hit the showers and after lunch, her technological workshop started. My turn came by four in the afternoon and I walked in with a smile. "Hey you!" She greeted and she stretched her back. "I'm sorry. I'm just not used to work within premises, especially not seated." I nodded because she seemed like a girl that worked in the field. She stood up and her back cracked and she sighed relieved. "Okay, as first class we'll do a diagnostic, so I know what are your weaknesses. Okay?" That seemed like she had practiced it for hours and maybe she did with all the soldiers before me.

"So, you have to do all the chores that are in here." She showed me a tiny flash drive. I nodded and started up the laptop. "So, tell me more about London." She questioned as I completed the first task. "Compared to New York, here you'll be bored to death." She made a face. "I highly doubt that as I have every hour of the day already taken." Now I made a face. "Let me look at your schedule." I stopped doing the task and I realized that Charlie had twice as much things to do than the residents of the institute, which was odd, we were always characterized for being fair. "What about weekends?" I questioned again. "I'm supposed to take extra lessons with someone." She shrugged like she had assumed her schedule and she was okay with it, but I was not. We kept talking and I tried to complete more tasks and by the end, I realized that I would need all the help I could get, because I was behind the rest, but I blamed it on the years I did not remember.

When my turn ended, she hugged me and I froze. "Oh. I'm sorry." She said and stopped hugging me. I left the room and I was confused. A part of me reacted to her embrace, like said part needed that hug and other than being surprised by it, I was okay with it. London customs were different from American and I did not know if Charlie would get the hold of it. Part of me was scared that people would not get her sense of humor, or that they would not understand her sarcasm or her incredible wit. Deep down I felt her fear, she was hiding something, but she did not mention a thing to me. She was scared of people disliking her and I also caught some vibes from the rest and I did not know what was that about. When I finished, I went to talk to the other exchange soldiers and talk about their schedules. Turned out, Charlie's was messier than the others, which meant this was not right. Someone was trying to sabotage Charlie and I would not let them do it.

She was too damn good for her own good and I would not let fail. She would rock this whole thing. Whoever wanted her to fail, they would not succeed, because she was too intelligent to fall for that. Jace had done a wonderful job training her and it showed. She was so confident and all I wanted was to be a little bit more like her.
