CATHERINE'S POV

I followed Charlie and tried our best to do our job. She was too worked up to think, so I let her be, but I stopped her before she opened a portal to London. She had told me about Leon and sex would not help her now. The following days were hell, Charlie was cranky and I was the one that had to pick up Sebby. "You don't have to take him." Steve told me and I chuckled. "I do. Charlie is beyond mad and she needs her dog." Steve looked away and I felt bad to take Sebby. "You'll have him every weekend." He nodded and let me go. A whole other week later, she finally calmed down enough to be reasonable, we sat on her room and I hacked into S.H.I.E.L.D's systems. They were trying to work on self-sustaining energy. "Okay, but if this is true, why didn't they called Tony, why calling an astrophysicist?" She questioned after the shower as I caressed Sebby. "I think we have to pay Tony a visit."

Charlie dressed up and before opening a portal, we texted him to secure his office, so we could portal straight to him. Tony and Pepper were discussing the new prototype for the tower and none of us knew how to break the question without them being suspicious about it. We were about to try to make a fool of a genius and I felt like this would backfire at us. We were not in great terms with Tony and here we were, trying to be the smarter ones. Charlie took my hand and asked me to follow the lead. I activated the bravery rune and followed her plan, she knew what she was doing, so I was putting all my efforts in. "Just out of curiosity, is this your only project with self-sustaining energy, right?" She started and I sighed relaxed, because it did not sound too intrusive or suspicious. "Just to clarify, it's the prototype and if this works out, I might build a few other towers. Why? You want your own tower, Charlie?" She giggled at his question.

"Not a tower, but I'm looking for an apartment." At those words, Tony opened his eyes and stood up. "No." He said while he paced around the office. "Why not? I'm old enough to live by myself. I'm twenty and I might apply to some college too. I'm smart." Now, she was lying and I got nervous. "Well, you living on your own means that you'll take any stranger to your home, because you trust everybody." As he said that, Charlie stood up and interrupted his sentence. "You really need to get over it. When you were young, no one stopped you from sleeping with strangers, so now I'd appreciate if you all stop questioning me." After that she stormed out as Pepper shook her head at Tony and left. "Is it wrong to care for her?" He asked me and I sighed. "Caring is one thing, but you're questioning her choices and Jace did the same in the Halloween party, remember?" Just then, Tony closed his eyes and sighed. "I fucked up again." I nodded and stood up.

"You really need to learn to work in teams. Not everyone wants to fuck you up, Tony." I walked to the exit, where Charlie was with Pepper. "Ready to go?" Charlie asked and I nodded. We said goodbye to Pepper. She chuckled and we bumped into Nat. "Girls, you've caught my attention. It's been a week since you last visited Steve, which is very odd. What happened?" Of course, Nat would know that, she is a spy for crying out loud! "We had a disagreement." Charlie replied and then Nat looked at me and Charlie just sighed. "For some reason, he thinks we work for HYDRA." I confessed and Nat giggled. "You've been treating him like a normal human being for the past six months and now he thinks you're HYDRA?" We nodded because that was sort of what had happened. "I'm really sorry." Her words sounded true, but still she was hiding something, just like us, so we took a different path.

I could feel Charlie's thoughts, but I wanted to give her time to think, but lately, she was overthinking every step she gave and second-guessing herself d. I knew Jace had apologized, but the wound was too deep to fix it with an apology and now, Steve doubt her. Maybe Charlie had been right, she should not have mixed with her mission. Now, that was on me.
