CHARLOTTE'S POV

It was still lighted in Canada when I walked out of the portal. The woods proved to be a great ally on hiding the cabin. Before I walked to it, I used my Stark glasses to have a better picture on the security system the cabin had. It was a very secured place and I did not know how to get any closer without S.H.I.E.L.D knowing I was there; they could not know I knew about Steve or this place. "Damn, I need to manipulate it manually, otherwise they'd know I'm here." I whispered to myself as I thought on how to do that from the distance. I could put a glamour, but the heat sensors would get me either way. "System changed." The glasses talked and I jumped in my spot. "Your heart is going over the normal beating, do you need EMT?" As I recognized the voice, I sighed relax. "It's okay, SANDRA put the security on loop, please and thank you." I smiled at my own AI Tony had created for me and walked to the cabin as I put the glasses back in their case.

I was nervous. How will I explain it to him now? I knocked hoping to come up with something in the next two seconds. I activated my hearing rune, he stood up and walked to the door silently. "Steve, it's me, Charlotte. We bumped into each other a few weeks-" He took the safety of the door and opened it, took my arm and gently pulled me inside of the house. "I thought you weren't with them." He sounded mad and his grip on me was steady. It did not hurt, but I did not know how badly his mind was. "I'm not. I told you I would find you." I took a step back and just stared at him. "How did you get here?" He asked as he walked closer. He did not trust me. "I tracked you down. I haven't rested, because I was afraid, they were using you and I was freaking out, because they are not as good as they seem." I confessed, mainly because I was desperate for him to trust me. "I'm not working for them." He quickly answered and I just looked at him.

"YET, you're not working for them yet. S.H.I.E.L.D can be a lot of things, but considerate is not one of the characteristics I'd use to describe them. They will knock on your door eventually." I supported my body on the doorframe trying to make myself more confident and he stood in front of me assessing my moves. "What is S.H.I.E.L.D specifically?" I was blown away by his lack of information. "Before we get into all that, can I do something really quick?" My heart was beating fast as I did not know if this was what he needed, but I did not lose anything by trying. He stared at me and made a quick glance over to make himself sure I did not have any weapon that could hurt him. When he was sure I was not a real threat, he sighed and nodded. I walked closer to him and hugged him tightly. At first, he was too shocked to do or even say something, but after a few, he returned the hug and I sighed, that meant that a part of him could trust me.

We stayed like that for a long time, mainly because he was holding me tight and I felt like he needed some contention after what he went through. He let me go after a while and we both walked to the couch and sat next to each other. I turned a bit so I could look at him. "Okay, so S.H.I.E.L.D is an intelligence agency run by Nick Fury, the guy with the patch on his eye. It was called Strategic Scientific Reserve previously." I started and his eyes were focused on me, but when I named the SSR his eyes flickered. "S.H.I.E.L.D was founded after your last mission by Howard Stark, Peggy Carter and Colonel Chester Phillips." I continued not really knowing if he was ready to hear all of this. He stopped looking at me and looked down. I could feel he was a bit disappointed and overwhelmed, but I did not know exactly why. "Something wrong?" I asked as I put my hand over his and he just looked at that connection like I should not have done it.

"Sorry." I apologized immediately and took my hand off his. He kept looking at my hand, even when I had taken it off from him. Out of the blue, he just put my hand on his again and I did not know what to do with that. "You're cold." I did not know what to say after that. "Yeah, it's a bit chilly in here." I replied and he went to turn on the chimney immediately, making me smile.
