CATHERINE'S POV

The following morning was a Saturday and we had free training, so instead of staying inside premises, I got out to jog around the block. I went to Charlie's room so we could go together, but it was a big surprise to find her room empty. "I'm going to kill her." I thought in case someone was around. I was leaving her room when she got in. "Activate your energy rune and change your clothes, we're jogging out." She groaned, but she did not say anything. Once she was ready, we got out. Both of us using earbuds as the music blasted. We were side by side and Charlotte was done half way. "Seriously?" She asked as I did not even sweat. "My sophomore year in the institute was all about jogging. Once, one of the instructors made us run for days and it was the equivalent to running throughout London thrice." Charlotte just looked at me. "I'm really sorry. That's abuse." I opened my mouth and closed it immediately. "That was a form of training, we never saw it as abuse."

Charlotte activated the endurance and energy runes and we kept running until we returned to the institute. "See? It was not that bad." She giggled and just put her arm over my shoulders. "The time zone fucked me up." I stopped walking and looked at her. "I have the same time zone as you and you have been back for a week, so don't blame it on the time zone. I just got here, but you don't see me skipping trainings or falling asleep." Charlotte looked down and just sighed. "I know you're not supposed to share everything with me just yet, so I'll let you alone, but don't expect me to keep this on our whole lives." After that I walked in and got ready for lunch. As we were eating, Charlotte seemed lost. "Are you regretting the parabatai thing?" I asked, already afraid of the answer. "What? No. I'm just worried over my mission. He's very unstable." We both sighed and just kept eating. Once the food was gone, we went to her room.

"There's something we have to discuss yet." She said and I stopped trying on her clothes. "Where are we going to put the rune?" Her question surprised me, we had talked about the ceremony, we had learnt the vows, but we have not discussed the place where the rune would go. "I mean, they could be in different places, I just asked so I know where to draw the rune." She added and I nodded, that was a very good thing to think beforehand. "Mine's going to be on the side of the abdomen." She kept talking. "Like Alec's?" I wondered and she nodded. "More like Jace's, but yeah." I hummed and stood in front of the mirror. "That'd look great though." We giggled as we had chosen the place. "But we could change to the other side, otherwise, Jace won't shut up about it!" Her words made me laugh, because that was true. There was this amicable rivalry between these two and they loved it.

After that, we put some grey tops and some black tight jeans and just for today, Charlotte decided to wear some high heels. "Where are you going?" Jace said when we both got to the meeting room. "The ceremony is one-of-a-kind so we had to dress up to that." Charlie explained and we both bumped our hips. "Pairing you might be heaven or hell. There's no in-between." Jace explained as a portal opened and Alec and Magnus got there. "You called the whole family for this?" Charlotte asked and in that exact same time another portal opened and Evelyn crossed with Leon and Vallery. Charlie held my hand and I felt a bit better. "I didn't know she was coming." She whispered to my mind and I just sighed relaxed. "Game on. Ready to be my parabatai?" Her answer was hooking her arm with mine and we walked to Evelyn. She looked us up and down and a part of me was afraid of Evelyn's reaction, and yet she just greeted and Jace took her to her seat.

I sighed and saw Leon's eyes stuck on Charlie's body. "You have a not-so-secret admirer." I said to Charlie's mind as we both laughed and relaxed. This was a great day and no one would spoil it, not even my nerves. It was then, when I noticed that it was not my nerves, it was something related to Charlie, when I looked at her, she was gone.
