CATHERINE'S POV

As I ended fighting, I showered and replaced Clary on the hosting role and sat next to our prime guests. Tony was lost in conversation with Jace and Matt as Nat, Clint and I were discussing how great the soldiers were. I told them that my old institute had the best training program of Europe and that had been the reason why Charlie had been there for a year. Tony was just blown away that we, being 'teenagers' could hit grown men like that without any weapon. I would just laugh and accept the compliments. After a while, the Fest was about to end as it was just Charlie missing and I clapped on my feet as I saw her walk in with a dress. "She's fighting them like that? Or is she going to strip?" Clint joked as Nat would hit his arm. "Women can fight in any clothes." Nat and I replied at the same time and we laughed as Charlie hit the first guy. By the middle of her turn, I felt someone on my other side.

I thought it was Clary or Simon, so I did not pay much attention to it, until I heard him gasp. It was Steve. "You came." I whispered to him, trying to hide my emotions, otherwise Charlie would notice something was wrong. "I thought you were ignoring me." He replied without taking his eyes of the fight. "I did not know you were here, I actually thought you were Simon." He looked at me for a split second and returned his eyes to Charlie. "She does know how to defend herself." He added after a few seconds. I nodded, because I did not know what else to say. "She does not need me to protect her." I did not know where he was going with this. "And we still don't work for HYDRA." My words made him look down for a brief second. "She's brave and I like her." I stopped breathing when he said that. I blinked and I stopped looking at Steve, otherwise I would say something embarrassing, so I kept observing Charlie.

Jace had gotten in and Charlie smiled at him, they hugged first and kissed their cheeks before starting. Jace was a really good fighter, but Charlie was even greater than him. I looked at Nat who mouthed what was going on with Steve and I just shook my head, because I really did not know what was going on between those two. Charlie cared for him, but I did not know if she liked him like he liked her. The fight ended and I clapped hard and it was then when she saw him, but she had just beaten Jace, so she was too happy to care about Steve. "What is he doing here?" She asked me while she was on her way to the shower. "Jace invited him as a white flag for helping you out." She just nodded and entered the bathroom. Clary and I guided our guests to some rooms so they could change their clothes and then I took them to the dining room as we would have a very nice dinner to celebrate and end the Combat Fest and certificate the best ones.

Charlotte got back with a smile and looking dashing, she was being awarded today too, but she did not know that. Jace and Clary had organized the seating chart, our table was the largest one hosting twelve people. Clint, Nat, Steve, Charlie, me and Matt. Then, in front we had Simon, Izzy, Tony, Jace, Clary and lastly Leon. We started eating and everything went perfectly, no weird topics or awkwardness. Steve and Charlie had talked and no one noticed how mad they were. It was then, certification time. Jace and Clary called out the New York soldiers that had gotten to the next combat level as Tony, Nat, Clint and Steve gave them the certificates. As Tony was a public person, we had made the certificate look like a Stark diploma, so we could upload them to our social media. It was then the turn to award Charlie and Steve got up there to hand her the certificate. I swear I could have lost myself on their stare. Whatever they had going on, they should get back at it again.

Steve cared for her and Charlie cared for him, but they were stupid enough to deny that. And yet, they just hugged and got away, without looking back. I sighed and cuddled on my boyfriend; they were their own biggest problems now. "Are you staying with me tonight?" Matt questioned and I just nodded, because I did not want to be away from him.
