CATHERINE'S POV

We kept making our costumes, kept tracking on Steve Rogers, we listened to some music as we talked about the Combat Fest that we were implementing in the institute, she had new ideas and we just had to present the project to Jace, who would say yes to whatever Charlie wanted. It was past midnight when the alarm went off and we got out half dressed with our costumes. "There's a vampire possessed downtown. Our main concern is to protect everyone and if we can, save him. Don't do anything stupid." Clary exposed, still confused on our clothes and we nodded, trying to act normal. Charlie and I ran to our rooms to change our clothes and when we were about to leave, we saw some movement outside the institute. "Is that the vampire?" I asked Charlie straight to her mind. "Yes, indeed. Record it and try your best to not kill him. I repeat. DO NOT ENGANGE." Her words made echo in my mind.

I have never tried to save a vampire, but thanks to Tony and Charlie, we could now. If we played our card well, we could save him and we could investigate what had really happened. Out of the blue, Charlie took of her invisibility rune and before I could freak out, she told me to stay hidden and to wait for her signal. "Dude, I don't want to harm you." She said as she put her hands up and slowly got closer to him. He growled and just tried to scratch her and I was so nervous that she was getting all of that and she called me up on that. "I'm sorry, just let me know when." I whispered to her mind and she chuckled lightly. "I just want to know who did this and how can we help you." Another growl and then he took a fighting position. "So, you want to fight me?" She asked and there was no response as he just jumped on top of her. "Well, that escalated quickly." She added from underneath him. "Now." She told to my mind and I got out of my hidden place and shoot my shot.

He fell over Charlie and Jace got there with that worried face. "What happened?" He screamed as he thought the worst. "Dude, chill out, I'm okay." Charlie spoke from under the vampire as she moved him from her body. "I need a full report. NOW." His words were full with relief and he walked inside the institute. I looked at Charlotte who was cleaning up from being in the ground and I started freaking out. "Don't worry, he has to act tough in front of an audience." She spoke to my mind, she was right. Words had been going around his softness over Charlie and they were not wrong, but they were not right either. Jace let Charlotte be because he knew that she was a great soldier and above all, he trusted her. He knew he could trust her because she was a lot like him when he was younger. We walked to Jace's office with our heads low, not looking guilty. We had all the proof that we had been careful and we had done a great job.

Jace received us in his office and we sat down in front of him. "Please, tell me you did not do anything stupid while I was gone." He started and the feeling that Charlie gave me, I knew something stupid was coming. "How could I? You took all the stupid with you." As she said that, Jace started chuckling. "I wouldn't have done anything stupid without my awesome sidekick." Charlotte's words made me feel proud of being her parabatai. Jace just smiled and snapped a picture of us. "My girls." He said and I blushed. "Dude, you're embarrassing her." She hit playfully his arm and he stopped looking at me. "My girl is jealous." He said and Charlotte got up and went to sit on his leg. We kept laughing until he dismissed us. We got out looking sad as the rest of the institute had to think we had been grounded and according to the rest of the soldiers, there was not anything worse than surveillance on field to take care of mundanes, specifically surveillance over S.H.I.E.L.D.

We wanted to believe the organization wanted to be good, but their actions always spoke louder. We sent everything to Tony, about Thor and Cap and he was just not shocked at all as his father has been tied to S.H.I.E.L.D. in his own time. He just told us that he would investigate using his consultant card and he would get back to us whenever he had something for us.
