CATHERINE'S POV

By night, Charlie sneaked out once again and as she was not in good terms with Jace, I decided to go out with her, with the difference that I would walk around the city trying to find something else than just the institute or Tony or Justin. New York had lots of options but me being the awkward girl I was, I could not just go to a party. I was more of a museum kind of girl, so using my invisibility rune I sneaked into the first one I found. Eventually, I ended my round and texted Charlotte, she was about to get to the institute, which meant, I had to get back. She was waiting for me and we both got in without raising too much doubts. We had become really good on hiding things lately and we could fool everyone, but us, which was a great ability to have. Thursday and as I had the morning free, I started to look for things to do while I was in America. After the tech workshop, Charlie joined my task and suddenly, she jumped out of bed.

"We should totally go and check out the Smithsonian in D.C." She was so excited that I did not know how to tell her that I did not know what she was talking about. "C'mon, we can make it before closing time." She just changed her clothes and opened a portal. "You really should start opening your own portals, I'm not going to be around forever." As her words came out, I nodded, but a part of me broke and I did not know why. "Hey, it was a joke." She added immediately and I frowned at her and she just showed me the rune. I had forgotten about that. We sneaked into the museum and we found an exhibition that called our attention. It was about World War II and a guy that offered himself so this scientist could experiment on him to be like a super guy. He was Steve Rogers and he had sacrificed himself by taking some plane. "Look! It's Tony's dad!" Charlie interrupted my train of thoughts.

"What?" I asked and got closer to her. "Tony's dad was part of the crew that created Captain America." She repeated and my brain was overthinking. "Stop thinking and talk." She added and I shook my head. "It's just that this." I showed all the exhibition. "This screams S.H.I.E.L.D." As I said that Charlie nodded. "Could have been this the real first Avenger?" Charlie looked at me excited as she babbled about having found her Halloween costume. "Dude, it's barely the end of July. October is ages away." Charlie just kept talking and I just stopped listening to her and looked in front of the Captain picture. There was his best friend, James Barnes. He had been the only one that had died on the line of duty, before Steve, which made me think if this could be our future. Charlie was fearless and the leader, I knew I would always be the follower and I was okay with that, because I had so much to learn from Charlie and I would die if she was not around.

Charlie was the kind of soldier that would sacrifice herself for the greater good as I was the kind of soldier that would die as a casualty for fighting for my beliefs. I could identify myself with the sidekick and I was okay with that. My thoughts were interrupted when Charlie jumped to my back. "I forgot my phone at the institute. Can I have yours?" She asked and I handed it to her still confused. "I need a picture of the uniform; how else will I make it?" It was then when I realized which would be my costume. "If you're Captain, I need to be the sidekick." I added as I pointed at the James uniform. Charlotte started jumping up and down and she just stopped when some guard got closer and we used our invisibility rune to escape. "We need to come in daylight to watch all the videos and stuff." I nodded, because I was getting a hold of the whole Avengers, even if there was no such thing as the Avengers, according to Nick Fury.

Days went by and we went to another concert, this time in New Jersey.Britney Spears was presenting her show and although none of us was really intoher music, there were some classics that we could not quite get out of ourbrains. As New Jersey was close enough, we took a car and went there, takingfull advantage of Charlie's drivers license. Fake, but license nonetheless.
