CHARLOTTE'S POV

I knew that whatever we did behind our director's back or sneaking out, meant that we could get caught, but those were the experiences I could give Cath while I was here. Since I got here, all my thoughts included her safety and I was totally okay with that. It was like some part of me needed to protect her and it seemed like the feeling was mutual. We got to the institute and we went to our room, as Catherine went to the bathroom. "Evelyn needs me in her office now. Meet me in the lunchroom later." I yelled to Catherine and walked out. I knocked on Leon's door twice and he knew right away that I was there. "Ready?" He asked and I nodded. "After lunch, just let me talk with Evelyn to approve the change." He smiled and a second later, I was hugging him. "Thank you." He whispered and I almost came undone, so I giggled instead to avoid crying. "It's okay, dude." After a few, he let me go and I walked out of the room.

I went to Evelyn's office and two minutes later, she opened her door and let me in. "What happened?" She saw my face and I just nodded. I really did not want to talk about it. "I need your permission to change partner for the afternoon." She stopped looking at the documents in front of her and stared at me. "Why do you need to change? I thought the parabatai bonding was going really well." As she said that, the words stuck on my throat. "The what?" I asked totally lost on the previous topic. "Wait, who do you want to change and why?" She left the documents behind and focused on me. Maybe she was thinking out loud and that comment was not meant for me. "Catherine's birthday is in eight days. As we are going to the seminary this following week, I need to find the perfect present for her and I can't pick her gift with her by my side. So, if you allow it, Leon will cover for me as I look for something special for her."

Evelyn supported her back on the chair and stared at me for the longest time. "Okay, one condition." I nodded excitedly. "Think on going back to London whenever you end your year off." That seemed a very reasonable condition, so I just giggled and nodded. "Then, you're free to go." And just like that her eyes went back to the document and I walked out of the office. I looked at the time and I was late for lunch, so I jogged to our usual table. There Cath was hugging Leon and I joined them. "So, Evelyn has a special assignment for me, which means, you have a new partner for today." I explained as we all sat down and Leon sat me on his leg. "What? Why?" Cath questioned immediately. "I don't know. I didn't ask. You want to ask her?" She knew that when Evelyn asked you something, you just do it, no brainer. "Who's my new partner then?" She asked already afraid of the answer.

"Leon is actually covering for me, so you won't have to deal with any other dude." My reply made her relax and Leon kept hugging me. "Dude, seriously, let her go." Cath said, but I just giggled and held his hands to my body. "I'm hungry. I'm picking up some food." I said and walked away from them. I caught something different from Leon, but I really did not want to get too much into it, because I already had a lot going on to add a not-so-secret admirer. After all these months, I had learned that the food was needed to have a high level of training. When I returned, Cath was surprised, just like every other time I went to pick my food. After a while, I was tired, so Leon fed me and I was thankful for that. When we all finished eating, they went to their surveillance shift and I went out to look for the perfect gift. I picked the gifts from Tony in the post office as they could not leave them in an abandoned church and I continued looking for the perfect gift.

I was about to give up, when I saw something that was perfect for her and without second guessing it, I bought it. It was so perfect that I wanted to give it to her immediately, but I calmed down and hid everything as soon as I got to the institute, because she was not supposed to find them this soon.
