CHARLOTTE'S POV

Days went by and every day I would casually drop by Steve's apartment. There was a neighbor that was just too aware of his moves. Whenever I got that feeling, Steve would kiss me to forget my annoyance. And just like that, we got to Valentine's Day and the dinner, the slow dancing and the weather led me straight to his bed. It felt different. It had not been just sex, there was this connection that I had not felt with Thor. This had been different and I did not know if I liked that. I enjoyed it, but lately I was not my confident self, so I blamed the parabatai bonding and moved on. By the end of March, I took a few things for Sebby to Steve's apartment and he welcomed me with open arms. Soon enough, I was on his lips and minutes later, we were on his bed. I felt different every time this happened. Steve went to the gym and we would casually bump into each other and talk while we trained, but our hormones got crazy every time any of us jumped into the ring.

By the middle of April, I had spent a whole weekend at his apartment and we had finished lunch, when Cath appeared, for the fire escape. "Dude, we need to keep investigating about the thing." As she talked, Sebby ran to her and the folder she had on her hands, fell. All our investigation, pictures and other documents scattered on the floor "Why are you investigating this?" Steve asked as he helped her retrieve the papers. His eyes changed and for a split second I felt scared. "Are you working for HYDRA?" Catherine and I looked at each other. "What the hell is HYDRA?" She asked and Steve was just too smart to let us off the hook. "We need to talk." And we all nodded to that. This was going to be a very long day. Sebby ran under the table when Steve stood up, he was too worked up for this. Both of us were completely lost. We knew what HYDRA was, but I just could not understand how he had gotten to the conclusion that we were behind his enemy's line.

Cath was shocked as I was mad. We took a second to just find a balance in our emotions and then he started pressing and so, I started. "We work for a non-governmental agency." That was true and as the Clave was still behind us, we could not go around telling people about our world. "Our job is to protect creatures on earth from potential threats." Cath continued as the words 'creatures' involved animals and plants, according to Steve, so we kept the meaning. "So, to do our job, we have to manage a good amount of information to be ready and handle those potential situations." I maneuvered the topic back to our last investigation. "And this is our last discover and unfortunately it's from S.H.I.E.L.D. They have it now. Not HYDRA." Steve had so much going on that I felt bad for putting him back in this. "We've been on it from a long time now, but no one knows what it is or what does it do." I ended as I showed him the pictures we had gathered.

"It's HYDRA secret weapon and you really don't want to know how it works or what it does." Steve added and I felt like a door opened. "Unfortunately, it's our job to know, so if you know anything about it you should tell us." Suddenly, his eyes were on me as Cath read once again the whole thing. "That's why you're onto me." At the moment I heard those words, I knew this conversation would end badly. "What? No. You just told us that you know what that is." Steve grunted exasperated and I could not let him talk to us like that, so I put him in his place. "We've been going around and round for months now, what kind of agents do you think we are if we haven't got that information from you yet?" Cath closed the folder and threw it on my backpack. "You don't get to tell us that we're using you because we're not. Ninety-three years my ass, you're just like any other stupid man." I took the bag and walked to the window.

"Let's go. We're done" My words had anger laced with disappointment and I left Cath there, hoping she followed. "I'll pick Sebby in a few days." I heard her say and after that, we were gone. I was more disappointed than I was angry. From all the things he could have said or done, telling us we were HYDRA was the last thing I had expected. Meaning he never trusted us. Never trusted me.
