CATHERINE'S POV

As we were with the invisibility rune, we sneaked into Nick's office and followed him to his car. He called Agent Hill and some patrol crashed into us. Then, we heard the gunshots. Charlie took me out of there and just assessed our surroundings. Suddenly, the car started moving again, so we held ourselves to the roof and after avoiding all the bullets, we were somehow free and then, I saw him. He had his face covered, but there was something about him. "Dude, Nick escaped." Charlie spoke to my mind and I nodded. I used my Stark's sunglasses and we saw he was literally crawling so; we got into the sewers and took out our invisibility runes. "Nick, let us help you." Charlie said as I walked behind her. "Who the fuck are you two?" I sighed and rolled my eyes. "We're Steve's friends. Where do you want us to take you?" He seemed to think for a moment and just sighed in pain.

"Take me to his place." We nodded and portaled ourselves to Steve's apartment. He sat down in the hidden corner and we turned the music player on. Charlie was mad at Steve and she was going crazy with his cologne over the place, so she went out. She was going to wait for him outside to give him a head's up. After a long while, I felt the annoyance of Charlie and before she could go home, I threatened what we could lose. "Dude, Nick's life is on the line, stop and focus." I whispered to her mind as I just walked away from Nick as both of them got into the apartment. I went to the next-door roof and after a few, this weird looking guy appeared. He was wearing a uniform and his face was covered. He was the same one that had attacked Nick. "The attacker is on the roof." I told Charlie to her mind, but it was too late as he shot Nick through a window and ran away. I started following him and tried to not lose him.

When Steve got there, I just kept running behind the shooter. He kept running as if Steve was still behind him and after a while, we got to some compound. This guy was working for HYDRA and I got completely nervous about going in without backup, but it was just too late. I got in and the guy took off his mask. I teared up when I saw his face. It was Bucky, Steve's friend. "Come to the military Hospital, now." Charlie texted me after a while and before leaving, I went to caress Bucky's hand. His eyes went soft and he sighed confused, like he did not understand what was happening. I left before I did something stupid, like taking my invisibility rune off. By the time I got to the hospital, Nat arrived too and for the look on her face, I knew this was not good. When I got to where Charlie was, she was pacing and then the line went dead. Nick Fury had died. Charlie walked inside the room and used her hearing rune; he had a beat. Slow and weak, but a heartbeat nonetheless.

We followed Steve and Nat out of the room. She was hurt and confused as to why Nick had gone to Steve's place and when Rumlow pressed Steve to go, we knew he was in it too. We returned to the HYDRA facility and James was unstable and fighting everyone who dared to touch him. It broke my heart. Just then, Alexander Pierce, the guy who was supposed to be in the government and be one of the good guys, got in the room where Bucky was still unstable and Alexander asked for a report of the mission. Suddenly, I understood what was going on. He had orchestrated all this to launch Project Insight, I felt pain when Pierce hit Bucky as he asked who was that man on the bridge. Some part of him remembered Steve and that made me feel some kind of hope. Like there was a tiny possibility that he could actually remember and go back to his life, just like Steve did. We needed to get him out of here.

Then, Pierce asked them to wipe him and I lost it. If it was not for Charlie, I would have killed him right there, but there were so many of them, I had to hold back and watched them wipe this innocent man. Bucky's screams were deafening and they got to my core. They took him to some room and we walked there, we caressed him and we tried to hold him until he felt better.
