CATHERINE'S POV

Jace's smile vanished and we just waited for the lecture to be over. "Why do you have to wait until last minute to tell me, huh?" I asked myself the same question, but we always got the same answer. 'He wouldn't understand.' He kept talking about him being always there for us and that his job was to take care of us and tons of other truths. Then, he finally shut up and I knew he had gotten to the dissolution of the bonds. He wrote a fire message, we had believed that Alec would come, but instead, Evelyn walked out of the portal with Leon. "What is it?" She questioned as both of them checked the info we had gathered on these months. "This are very serious accusations, but I also know that you've took your time with this to be sure." We nodded, even if it was not right. "But, still, you should've told us when you found the first lead." I looked down as Charlie crossed her arms on her chest.

"We went to you on the first time the Clave was onto me and other than avoiding them to take me, you haven't done anything else, so before you lecture me, I wanted to be sure of what they had on us." Charlie was barely holding in. "It was Leon who told us the Clave was coming for us for allegedly going to Silent City. They are framing us for our allegedly powers so they can destroy everything and we're not taking the blame for that. We don't even know about said powers for crying out loud!" Jace blocked Charlie's way and she fell apart on his embrace, she was scared and so did I. "We should tell Alec about it." Jace wrote a new fire message and soon enough, they were in his office. Magnus hugged me and I exhaled tired. Jace, Evelyn and Leon filled them in and both were perplexed. "Okay, it's fine. We can manage this." Alec said after a while. "What if we don't?" Charlie asked and a whole other scenario came to my head.

"What if they fulfill their purpose and they end us?" I added and Jace looked at us. "That's not going to happen." He replied. "How do you know?" We murmured and Alec showed a smile. "Because no one threatens my family." Those words made me sigh and I was okay with their bravery and strength. After that, Magnus used a rune to avoid outside people to mingle around those memories and we got back to our normal life. Thanksgiving's dinner was awesome but then something weird happened. Charlotte had been distracted lately. "You okay?" I asked and she put some sandwiches on my hand. "Dude!" I spoke to her again and just then, she looked at me. "Sorry, what?" I giggled and put my back on the chair. "You okay?" I repeated and she made a face. "Jace pointed out that I liked Steve and now I'm thinking if I'm giving him any clue to say otherwise." I put my hand over hers and shook my head.

"It's okay. If you would have, he would have stopped coming for you. He wouldn't have put up with Jace on three different occasions. So, please, just call him!" She made a face and sighed as she told me she would call him later. After that, she asked for a week off and I worried about my own business; trainings were getting more interesting since the Combat Fest and everyone was giving their best. It had been nearly a week since Charlie last came to the institute and when she got back, her face let us know that she was not happy and that she needed an assignment, so Jace delivered. Jace called her to his office as I was already there. "Now that both of you are here, activate your truth rune. NOW." I looked at Charlie and she shrugged and we did as we were told, because we knew that Jace would not freak out for nothing. "What do you know about Project Insight?" I frowned, because I did not know. "I heard about the name, but I don't know what is it."

The rune did not burn like other times and Jace knew she was telling the truth. "Deactivate the rune and get ready to go to D.C. Fury is onto something and I just want to know what are we fighting for and to know who are behind all those attacks." We nodded, changed our clothes and portaled straight to Nick's office.
