CHARLOTTE’S POV

After an hour, she was about to finish and I put together every ounce of courage I had to talk about my idea for my technological workshop, the pain I felt was laced with the anxiousness for her answer. All I needed was her approval. “Is there anything you need?” She asked when I sat back on the chair. “Yeah. There is.” I replied with a smile. “I have this idea for the workshop, but I need your permission.” I had started and suddenly I was not nervous. Evelyn looked at me and I sat back. “We have every possible mean to spy on Downworlders but we are still in debt with mundanes, so I came up with an idea.” As I started explaining, I realized how messed up my idea was, but there was nothing I could do now. “I've realized that mundanes like to share everything they do on internet.” Evelyn looked at me lost. “Internet is the place where you can connect with people and find whatever you’re looking for.” She nodded.
“Anyway, we could create a space for mundanes to post things using their camera, letting us spy on them without them knowing.” I ended my speech and I waited for the outcome of my words. “I think that’s a very good idea. And you can use it as a challenge for your technology workshop.” I smiled because that was exactly the idea. “Now, I wanted to ask if there was any possibility of encourage them with a prize or something.” I asked, not very convinced they really deserved an award for being better, besides they had been jerks to me. “Why they would need encouragement? It’s part of the job.” Her words were true and I realized that she was up to something. “I know I make everything look easy, but truth is it hasn’t been. Some people took sides and unfortunately I was in the team against.” She listened to my rambling about the things that I have been through and that I just had told Cath.
“Remember your first day here?” She asked and I just nodded. “The soldier that explained everything to you all, told me about your encounter with Leon. By then, you were not very welcome on my part, but then a call from your institute explained a lot about you.” By then I felt like throwing up. I knew Jace had the best intentions, but his timing was not the best. “He sent every report of every mission you had been part of and I understood that what happened was nothing to be with you. Jonathan caught Sebastian in the wrong place at the wrong time and we can’t pin that to you.” I did not know what to say. “So, don’t let them intimidate you. You prove yourself that you can beat them with the minimal effort.” I just nodded and walked outside. When I got to my room, Cath was asleep. I lay down next to her and waited for her to wake up. I told her everything that Evelyn had said and she heard my rambling.
As she went to shower, I changed the bandage and the wound looked awful. This was not supposed to look like this. I touched it and it was numb, like dead flesh and I just asked the Angels to not be what I thought it was. After Evelyn’s words after breakfast, I started to feel claustrophobic, so I used the first excuse I could come up with. Training.  But my moves did not match my brain. Cath seemed worried and I felt bad for that, because there was nothing I could do to make her feel good. We were interrupted when Grace, one of Leon’s friends, who told us that Evelyn needed us in her office, so we went there. A few seconds after we got to the director’s office, the same soldier that went for us, got in and I already knew what was going to happen. This was out of proportion and Cath was going to suffer the consequences. I was so busy in that, that I forgot how to talk when I saw Leon and his friend that had stabbed me.
Suddenly, I was scared and I just held Catherine’s hand. She caught up my glance and I felt how her energy changed. Vallery, was there too, some newcomers and a few other residents of the institute. This was such an odd meeting and I really did not know what could Evelyn say now. I really did not need another reason for them to hate me.
