CHARLOTTE'S POV

I caressed his head and just let him rock me back and forth. When we got to the video showing and Peggy appeared, his mood went to the floor and my jealousy went higher when he opened his compass with the picture of her. Steve put his arm around me. "There's this project. Insight Project." He started and I did not know how to help him. "I've always been a soldier, but I don't know if I can be the soldier, they want me to be." I held his hand. "Then, don't." He sighed like I was too young to understand his problems. "Steve, I know they command you, I'm a soldier too, but they can't force you to do things you don't want to. You're not a puppet." Steve knew his conflicted sides were not on the same page. "I feel like you're not the one I should be talking about this." I rolled my eyes. "I'll go visit a friend." I managed to nod, because I was not able to tell him to trust me and stay with me. So, against my better judgment, I followed him.

Peggy was old and seemed like she had lived a great life. "For as long as I can remember I just wanted to do what was right. I guess I'm not quite sure what that is anymore. And I thought I could throw myself back in and follow orders, serve. It's just not the same." It hurt the fact that he still managed to go back to her. "You're always so dramatic." I smiled at that and I stopped feeling jealous. I understood that he needed something from his old life. She told him that everything had changed and that they could not go back, but they could do their best right now and sometimes the best was to start over. She started coughing and Steve panicked and when she was okay, I noticed she had Alzheimer. She looked at him like it was the 40s again and then he threw the words I wish he had never spoken. "Well, I couldn't leave my best girl. Not when she owes me a dance." Then, my jealousy went up again and I left the room.

As much as I tried to stop myself, I just could not forget it. I portaled to the institute as I wanted to get away from Steve, but just my luck, Jace sent me right back at a S.H.I.E.L.D. matter. We looked for Nick, but he was a victim of his own organization and I got angry. Who was behind all this? And most importantly, why? What was Project Insight? As Steve went with S.T.R.I.K.E. back to S.H.I.E.L.D. we caught up to Nat. "Hey, I saw who shot Nick." Cath said as Nat stopped and we walked out of the hospital. "He's a HYDRA agent and I'm not sure if we want to fight him. He has a metal arm and he's been clearly brainwashed." She closed her eyes as she knew who I was talking about. "Don't engage and don't tell Steve about this." I shook my head. "I have to." She sighed annoyed. "He's not going to believe you." I knew that. She walked into the hospital and I waited for Steve outside S.H.I.E.L.D's perimeter and I was surprised when he was attacked.

When he got next to me, I opened a portal back to the institute and he changed clothes. "Steve, I know who shot Nick." He stopped walking and turned to me. "Who?" I swallowed and stood right in front of him. "They call him the Winter Soldier, he's under a type of mental control." Steve nodded like he understood, but I knew that he would not. "It's James, Steve. HYDRA has Bucky, they brainwashed him and had been using him. Since the 40s." Steve walked backwards and shook his head. "C'mon, Charlie. I really don't have time for this." After that, he did not speak to me and instead of being mad at him for not believing me, I just let it go, he was not ready to believe that. Catherine and I went back to the institute to report our mission and Jace just wanted to know what was the project, so we got out once again. We sneaked into S.H.I.E.L.D but we could not get in without them being suspicious, so we tracked Steve and he was in Jersey.

"Why would he be in the Garden State?" He hated Jersey, so why he wasthere. Out of the blue, we heard that S.H.I.E.L.D had sent a missile to wherethey were and my heart could not take it. "If S.H.I.E.L.D is onto them, Nick isout of the picture, they are going to need someone to help them and theinstitute is out of the question as the Clave is behind me." Shit.
