CHARLOTTE'S POV

Evelyn stood in front of everyone and waited until there was a deathly silence. "Each and every newcomer will take a piece of paper from this bowl. In that piece of paper is the name of the person you'll fight against." It seemed fair and yet I just wanted to fight Leon. I was so mad and angry at him for blaming me for what had happened to Sebastian, but deep inside I understood his actions. If I would not have been so adamant on him spending his year in New York, maybe he would have gone to any other place. So, I kind of needed to take out the guilt through fighting and if I could fight Leon, he would back off. The first in line took the paper out of the bowl and it was Catherine. She smiled and her innocent face made the newcomer smile at his luck, if he only knew. Cath let him throw the first punch and using her graceful moves, she dunked and he missed. Cath shrugged her shoulders and let him try again, but he missed again.

By the third punch, Cath realized that he would not be able to hit her because he was too slow. "Sorry." She added after she knocked him out, which made me giggle. She was really special and slowly she was transforming into a very different soldier. She was a bit confident on her own skills and that was good. After forever, finally was my turn to take out the paper. I was very disappointed to see that it was not Leon. I walked already bored. I would do my best, but I did not have anything to prove. I got ready to fight the guy that was in front of me. Unlike Cath, this guy lunged at me and I put my fists in front to block his move. His second attempt was messier than the first one and I blocked every single attempt he did. At every move, he looked at someone in the public and after a while, I followed his gaze. It was a big surprise to find Leon, so I stopped being cautious and fought back, with the same intensity of this guy.

I would not stop until I won and I did. It was not just the fact that I won that made me happy, but seeing the face Leon did when I beat the crap out of his friend, made me feel empowered and I was determined to keep feeling like that, I would not give Leon the power to make me feel like shit. As I got to the room, I went to shower before talking to Cath about my whole beef with Leon. I turned on the water and got in. I always liked to shower with cold water after training, but right then, everything hurt and there were some dark lines around my wound. I tried to keep it quiet and then, I put a bandage over the cut. As I got out, I got to my bed and told Cath everything. She was supportive and a great ally and I really did not want her to change that towards me. After two months, I could not keep her in the loop anymore, especially when I had been wounded in the Combat Fest.

Her eyes showed sadness and I hated that. Jace had taught me that showing emotions was not as bad as I thought and yet, I could not let my emotions cloud my judgment, especially when I was in the field. Although, I knew all that, whenever Cath was around, I could not hide them. It was like her eyes demanded me to tell her everything I was thinking without even talking. There was this magical vibe that made me trust in her. By then I was completely tired, so I just fell asleep. I woke up a while later, Cath was asleep and walked to the director's office for her private technological lessons, she was in the same level as the rest now, but I had an idea and I wanted to ask if I could actually make it happen. I detoured to the kitchen and ate before going up. The light was on, which meant she was already waiting for me. I knocked twice and opened the door. She had her computer already on and I walked to the chair in front of her.

"Ready for your last sesh?" My voice made her stop looking at her screen and looked at me. "Sure." She replied as she eyed me up and down and lingered for a moment, almost like she wanted to tell me something, but she did not. I handed her a new pen drive and guided her through the activities she had to do.
