CHARLOTTE'S POV

It was midnight when I went to the kitchen to clean up as Catherine and Steve picked a movie. I knew he still had issues to solve, but I was happy to bring him back to light. I could feel that he missed his best friend. I knew he missed his old girlfriend and it was totally depressive to know that he had died and she was old as Steve was his old self. I was so lost on my thoughts that I jumped in my spot, when I saw Steve next to me. "By the Angel!" My words made him chuckle lightly. "I'm truly sorry, ma'am." I giggled every single time he said that. "I slipped it again?" He questioned as he scrunched his nose and I nodded. "You need something?" I asked with a smile. "I just wanted to say thank you." His words touched something within me. "Since the defrosting thing, I've been feeling pretty dark and tonight, every time that my thoughts wanted to bring me down, you just brought me back to reality." I left the plates behind and turned to him.

"Thankful enough to give me a hug?" I said with a tiny smile. "Oh, trust me. That would be the least I'd do." He added as he caught me in between his arms. I let myself wander and hugged him back. After a few seconds, we got apart and he returned to where Catherine was. I finished rinsing the plates and sat next to him. We watched a movie and then, we got ready to go back to the institute. "I'm not completely okay with you two leaving at this time." Steve said and I smiled. "It's totally deserted around here and we have the car nearby, so we're okay." Catherine said and I just managed to nod. "Next time, you're staying." His words were channeled to both of us, but it felt directed to me. "Thank you for letting us spend this day with you." Catherine spoke once again and offered her hand and walked out as I just hugged him. "I'll come as soon as I can. I promise." I whispered and he just managed to kiss my forehead.

"I don't know what you're doing, but I'm okay with it." His hands cupped my face and I could feel my heart on my throat. "If you're going to kiss me, do it." I found myself speaking once again and as he just kissed my cheek with a smile and I just sighed as I closed my eyes. "I have to go now." I stepped back and walked out of the house. "What was all that?" Catherine asked to my mind as we kept on walking away. "I don't even know." I answered not even sure of what had just happened. I opened the portal and walked through it. "Seems to me that he was flirting." Catherine told me as soon as we got to my room. "I highly doubt it. He just wants to feel normal as he never felt like it in his previous life. He's alone, so he's just playing." I stripped my clothes and Jace entered. "Why on Earth are you naked?" I rolled my eyes. "One, I'm not naked and two, privacy?" My questions made him turn around again and look at me.

"You're in the institute, so no privacy for you, my dear. Anyway, mission status?" I started panicking and Catherine stood up. "Everything is under control. At least with Steve and Tony." Jace ticked his list and walked out. "The bond shared our main characteristics. You got panicky and I got confident." Her words made me look at her. "Either way, I'm the one at loss here." We laughed and just kept talking about tonight. "Do you like him?" She asked and I did not know what she was talking about. "Steve. Do you like Steve?" I opened my mouth to reply, but I did not know what I felt related to him. "To be honest, I don't know." I sighed. "I mean, he's good looking and all, but with all the Thor thing and everything, I'm not sure if I should be thinking on my next fling." Catherine smiled and held my hand. "Fling doesn't mean marriage, so, have fun. It's not like Steve doesn't have issues to solve on his own." She was right and I would just follow the flow.

When she went to her room, her words stayed behind. Maybe I could flirt back, maybe we could be best friends. There was a world of possibilities and I was more than okay with any of that, for as long as Jace did not find out about it. He was trusting me again and I did not want to lose it again.
