CATHERINE'S POV

When we returned to the institute, the dinner was ready. We sat down and then we made a present exchange and then we were free to go out. As we were in S.H.I.E.L.D. mission, we had to have an eye on them, so using our invisibility rune, we sneaked into the headquarters. There was a powerful energy coming from somewhere of the building and none of us liked the idea of them having something weird or powerful. We followed the peak of energy and saw a bright cube that was onto a machine. There was this guy trying to study it, but apparently, all his efforts were useless. "What is that?" I questioned Charlie, hoping she knew what this was. "It seems like something Thor told me, but I'm not sure." Her answer was exactly what I did not want to hear. The scientist working on the cube talked to the others in the room as Clint Burton looked from afar. "If Clint is here, means it's okay." I said to Charlie, who just nodded, not very convinced.

"Let's go up." We jumped to where he was and took our rune out. "Hey, Clint." Charlie greeted and he jumped when he saw us. "Dear Lord!" He looked at us and kept on looking down to the cube. "What are you supposed to do?" I asked and he just nodded the cube. "I'm on babysitting duty." He smiled, but there was a hint of seriousness on his face. "How bad is it?" Charlie questioned and he showed his ten fingers. We both looked down and sighed, if S.H.I.E.L.D. got a hold of the power of the cube, things would go south for every creature on Earth. "You should go now." He explained and we both nodded. I had recorded enough things to keep investigating. We activated our runes and we got out of the building more confused than before. We were on our way back to the institute, when Jace caught up to us. He was onto us. "What are you doing here?" He asked and Charlie looked past me.

"We want a pet." She said and nodded to the window behind me. "As we're living off premises in a few, we want a dog." I continued the lie and Jace dared us to go through, so we did. We entered the place and there were so many dogs that we did not know which one to take. "What are we doing now?" I quizzed mentally Charlie and she just told me to pick the cutest dog as she handled Jace. I kneeled and watched every puppy there as Charlie talked to Jace. "What's really going on?" Charlie asked him and I could feel how disappointed she was. "Do you really think we're going to turn our backs to our world? Do you really believe them over us? Over me?" Jace took her arm and walked her out, so I activated my hearing rune. "I'm worried about you." He told her and I felt Charlie get her walls down. "Besides, I said a few mean things to you and I want you to know, that they are not true at all. Your choices made you who you are and I'm very proud of that woman."

His words made me tear up and immediately one dog got closer and cuddled me. "I think I found the one to take home." I whispered to the dog and he started to wiggle his tail. I took him and looked at him. He seemed healthy and by the time Charlie came back, she awed at him. "We have a winner." I told them as Jace caressed the puppy with a smile. "Back to paradise?" I whispered to Charlie's mind and she just giggled. We walked to the lady in charge and made it official. Then, we went to buy some food, toys and a few other things for our new soldier. We had made some commitment for the puppy's healthcare and they would do follow-ups to check on us, so we had to provide an address. Charlie put Tony's address and we hoped for the best. She texted Tony and he agreed, so we were safe for that. "The only thing missing now, is the name." I told Charlie and she nodded. "Girls, I hate to say this, but you're not allowed to have him in the institute."

As he said that, Charlie got mad and was about to yell at him. "It's okay, we have a place where we can leave him for a bit." Charlie nodded and we walked to her room with our dog. I bet Steve will be the happiest with someone to accompany him while we are doing our own things, that gave Charlie the excuse to go and see him more often.
