Breaking The Blues

I woke up feeling sad today, there's no particular reason, I just don't feel like myself. I manage to make it through breakfast without my family noticing, but as soon as Eddie picks me up for school, he knows somethings up.

"Who stole your smile today sweetheart?" He asks whilst driving, looking at me momentarily. I shrug and plaster on a fake grin. "I'm fine!"

Eddie shakes his head. "Uh-uh, I'm not falling for that. I guess I have to make it my quest today to make you feel better."

Instead of faking to be happy which obviously isn't flying past Eddie's radar, I just shrug and give him a "good luck" expression.

Firstly, as soon as he parks up and we get out, he pretends to trip over, resulting in him actually falling over. I watch without a laugh, holding out a hand as I mumble "I'm not bandaging your knees dumbass."

Secondly, in our first class together Eddie pulls funny faces at me when the teacher isn't looking, he almost gets caught twice, but somehow survives until the bell. Not once do I laugh or smile.

When lunchtime rolls around, I head to our usual table by the window. Before I've even sat down, Eddie pulls out my favourite candy from his pocket and looks at me as if he needs praising. "Thanks." I mumble, giving him an appreciative nod. The others laugh at Eddie's attempt until he tells them all to shove it.

Right after lunch when the corridors are cram packed full of students rushing to class, Eddie loudly begins to sing my favourite song, earning odd looks from teachers and pupils. I blush and quickly lose him in the crowd, still hearing him by time I've gotten into the classroom, admittedly this does earn a small smile from me, but Eddie doesn't know this.

Finally, at the end of the day, I walk out of class to see Eddie waiting for me as usual, I shake my head as he pushes off from the wall he was leaning on. "You're a tough nut to crack my grumpy girl." He mumbles as he looks down at me.

I shrug and meet his gaze, "I knew you wouldn't be able to do it." Eddie's eyes twinkle and I can almost see the cogs working as he steps closer to me. Every step back I take, he steps forward.

"There's one thing I haven't tried yet," he murmurs, leaning down. I freeze, his face is moving towards mine and I think he's going to kiss me, and I don't actually mind. I close my eyes ready for contact...but it never comes. Eddie quickly kisses my cheek, exaggerating the noise which for some random reason makes me laugh.

"Gotcha!!" He shouts which echoes down the corridor, I grin and cover my mouth with both hands, but it's no use.

Eddie grins at me, showing me his dimples, before bending down and throwing me over his shoulder as if I weigh nothing. He sprints down the corridor as I cling onto his jacket for life.

"Eddie, I swear if you drop me!" I shriek, laughing the whole time.
