Lets Get Drunk

I'm the first to wake up, the sunlight glares through the blinds as I sit up faster than I ever have before. I turn to Eddie and shake him hard. "Eddie, it's graduation day!" I laugh. Eddie groans as I roll out of bed, already getting dressed.

"Maybe. It depends if we've actually passed all the classes. Well I know you have, but..." Eddie deeply mumbles, looking at me with a worried look. I narrow my eyes before jumping on him, earing a 'oomf' from him seconds before he wraps his arms around me, kissing my shoulder.

"Come on, let's go get our diplomas." I smile, giving him a peck on the nose.

Eddie and I sprint down the hallway to the gym, hand in hand we tug each other along laughing, though really both of us are terrified. We head into the gym that is packed with students hugging and crying, I guess some people didn't pass.

Eddie gulps and looks down at me nervously, so I give his hand a squeeze and lead him to the table where we can collect our results, the main graduation happens later today when we're handed an empty scroll by the headteacher.

We recieve our results, and Eddie goes to sit outside in the spring air, where its quieter. "Ready?" I ask with a small smile, my hands are sweaty and shaking.

Eddie quickly grabs my hand before I can open the envelope. "No matter what, I'm proud of you, you don't need a diploma to tell you shit." He murmurs. I nod then with a deep breath I tear open the paper, revealing a lot of Bs and a few Cs.

I passed school!

Eddie is a little slower opening his, I watch as his eyes narrow on the paper, scanning whatever is on there. His face drops and the paper falls gently out of his hands. I frown panicking then pick it  up, reading his results as fast as I can...

"Oh my God..." I whisper, then I wrap my arms around Eddie squealing "You fucking did it! I'm so happy for you!"

Eddie chuckles and snakes an arm around my shoulders, letting out a relieved breath. "All thanks to you, now we're free."

I nod, leaning my head on his shoulder as the wind gently blows my hair. We both look out across the empty field and into the trees beyond. "Life is gonna be so different now." I mutter, then remember the gift I got Eddie.

I reach into my bag and pull out a bottle of wine I stole from my parents' stash, they'll never know. Eddie's eyes widen as he looks between me and the bottle.

"I thought we could share this to celebrate, or drown our sorrows, you know, it depends on the mood." I smile.

"I got you something too," Eddie softly says, reaching into his inside pocket, he pulls out a gorgeous leather-bound book, slightly scuffed and vintage looking, "it's a first edition of your favourite book."

My eyes fill with tears as I take it from him, "Thank you." I whisper, holding the book to my chest.

"Let's go grab something to eat then celebrate." Eddie says standing up.

-------------------------------------------------------

"You're out of touch-"

"I'm out of time!" Eddie sings back to me as we dance around his room with the bottle of wine. Empty beer cans are scattered across his desk and bed from our earlier celebrations. The last rays of sunlight shine through the window as Eddie and I finally collapse onto his bed giggling.

"You're so drunk." I snort as Eddie hugs the almost empty bottle to his chest.

"I know you are but what am I?" He teases childishly, I laugh and hook a leg over him.

"You're the love of my life." I mumble, my head feeling fuzzy as the buzz wears off, now I'm beginning to feel the headache coming on, plus I'm so tired.

Eddie stiffens and drops the bottle off of the bed, it rolls as the music stops, forming a deafening silence.

"You- you love me?"

"...yeah?" I whisper, looking up at him. Eddie's mouth tilts into a grin as he rolls onto me, straddling my waist as he kisses my mouth messily, he tastes of alcohol and cigarettes.

"I love you too," he mumbles between the kiss, his hands grip my waist as I sit up to take control...
