ETHAN'S POV
I sat in the living room, slouched on the lounge sofa, lost in thought. Even the alcohol wasn't enough to numb the pain I was feeling.
My mind was in complete chaos...
I still couldn't understand how everything ended up like this.
A few moments passed before I heard soft footsteps coming from the staircase.
I glanced toward the sound, but the moment I saw who it was, I quickly looked away and fixed my eyes on the floor.
She continued her slow descent, each step bringing her closer...until she was finally standing right behind me.
Then, her cold arms gently wrapped around my shoulders from behind, her touch light but lingering.
She leaned in, resting her cheek softly against mine.
"Kuya..."
I couldn't bring myself to speak. I just let her hold me. I needed that hug more than I'd ever admit.
I could feel that she loved me...But it didn't make the pain any easier, knowing I had to share her heart with someone else.
"Kuya, I'm sorry..."
Sorry?
What good is sorry, Ash, if you're just going to do it again? If you can't choose between me and Geoff… if you keep hurting me, making me hope, only to break me again.
"Kuya, please… talk to me." She whispered.
"Ash…"
My voice shook as I finally spoke, the weight in my chest too heavy to carry in silence.
"Ash, who really has your heart...Me or Geoff?"
Fuck. I just want the truth. Is there even a place for me in her heart? Is it that hard to pick between me and him?
My lips began to curl into a frown, and I knew it wouldn't take long before the tears came. I tilted my head slightly upward, trying to stop them from falling.
I could no longer pretend.
Deep down… I knew.
I would never get my old life back.
"I'm sorry, Kuya..."
Her words pierced straight through my chest.
I bit down hard on my lower lip, clenching my hands into tight fists. I didn't want to cry in front of her. I tried to hold it in but I couldn't stop the tears that had already begun to well up in my eyes.
And then… they fell.
Because my heart could no longer take the pain.
Ashley gently raised both of her hands in front of me and wiped the tears from my face.
But the more tender she was, the more it hurt.
I lowered my head, resting both elbows on my knees. I buried my face in my hands, rubbing my palms harshly against my skin, again and again. Hoping the pressure would somehow dull the ache.
"Do you love him more than me?" I asked in a barely audible voice.
I felt her shake her head behind me.
