That morning Dean, Sam and Jody had built a large pyre for the dead that had come back and are now dead for the final time, at least we hope so, dad and I had gotten one made separately for mom. He didn't look at me though as he lit the wood on fire, nor does he say anything as he wheels himself back to sit beside me while the fire grows; however he does take my hand gripping it tightly and I know then that he's not angry at me for doing what I did because he's lost just as much as I am without her.

"Dad, I'm sorry," I say.

He nods but doesn't say anything; I mean what can you say after losing your wife twice in one lifetime? After the fire has grown pretty large the boys join us, Dean putting an arm around my waist while Sam stands on the other side of dad's wheelchair.

"So," dad starts, "thinking maybe I should apologize for losing my head back there."

"Bobby, you don't owe us anything," Sam says.

"At least you and Melanie got a few days with her," Dean says but dad scoffs, "right which makes things about a thousand times worse. She was the love of my life; the mother of my stubborn daughter how many times do I got to watch her die?" I lightly tap his arm at the crack he made at me, "you boys should know," dad mutters, "Karen told me why death was here."

I grind my teeth, she whispered to him just low enough so I couldn't hear, so I have no idea what was said.

"What do you mean?" Sam asks.

"I know why he took a stroll through a cemetery in the sticks of South Dakota," he explains, "he came for me." I can hear the tension in his words, "he brought her back for me to send a message."

"You? Why you?" Dean asks

"Because I've been helping you, you sons of bitches," dad snaps, "I'm one of the reasons you're still saying no to Lucifer, Sam."

'So this was a hit on your life?"

My blood runs cold, why the hell does Death care if dad helps the boys? Does Lucifer have something to do with this because he raised the Horseman? When I get my hands on that Angel dick, I'm gonna throttle him.

"I don't know if they wanted to take my life or...spirit," he sighs, "either way they wanted me out of the way."

Once we're sure the pyres aren't going to spread into the nearby woods and fields Jody takes off hugging me again, "if you need anything, just let me know. I can't wait to see the little bundle of joy!" She takes off after that giving dad a long forlorn look before crawling into her vehicle and taking off down the road, dad heads inside with the help of Sam.

"Melanie," Dean starts, "what you did, I'm sorry."

"Part of the job," I murmur, "gotta do what you have to or get killed."

He follows me inside, dad is in the kitchen taking a long pull from a glass bottle he got out of the fridge, great just what I need for him to turn back into a raging alcoholic that he never wanted to become.

"Mel, I ordered your baby things," he announces after lowering the bottle, "they should be here in about a week; I do know you'll need more stuff so don't hesitate to do it."

"Thanks dad."

Dean says that him and Sam are heading out again, people to save things to kill or whatever their family moto is, I hesitate on staying here or going with them but in the end, dad insists I go so he can be alone for a bit to deal with mom's death again. As we drive away Dean allows me to sit up front between him and Sam not wanting me to be alone but not wanting to have his little brother drive his car; Sam didn't seem to mind in fact we started talking about babies again which reminded me to make a list of more things I'll need. I know for the most part I'll probably hit up a Goodwill here and there or thrift shops for baby things, after a while I go to sleep but didn't want to lean against Dean's shoulder because he's driving so Sam allowed me to rest against him for the remainder of the ride wherever we're headed to.
