Chapter 12: Quite the Statement

3rd Person POV

When Miku and Vanessa had finished putting on their gym uniforms, they entered Class 1-A's waiting room to find Mina complaining. "Aw, man. I was totally hoping I could wear my costuuume...!" "At least everyone'll be in uniforms. That'll keep things fair, right?" Ojiro told Mina, stretching his arms. "I wonder what they have in store for us in the first round." Sato said, sounding a bit excited yet nervous at the same time. "No matter what they've prepared, we must persevere." Tokoyami told Sato. "Right." Shoji added.

As soon as Miku and Vanessa sat down with Kirishima, Kaminari, Bakugo, and Sero with Todoroki standing beside their table, Iida burst through the door with a serious look. "Everyone, get your game faces on! We're entering the arena soon!" Everyone in the class started to freak out, but Todoroki had suddenly spoken up.

"Midoriya." "Hey Todoroki what's up?" Midoriya asked, now looking up at Todoroki who was standing in front of him. "From an objective standpoint, I think it's fairly clear that I'm stronger than you."

Uraraka let out a, "Huh?" in confusion. "Uh— Um yeah." Midoriya replied in a stutter, quite unsure what to say. "However, you've got All Might in the corner helping you out. " Midoriya gasped and Todoroki continued. "I'm not here to pry about what's going on between you two. But know... that I will beat you." Midoriya gasped louder and looked at Todoroki in utter shock.

The Bakusquad turned around from their table to fully look at Midoriya and Todoroki. Vanessa stared intensely at the two conversing boys. "What's with all these declarations of war lately?" Kaminari asked, a bit surprised. Kirishima stood up from his chair and made his way over to Todoroki. He placed his hand on his shoulder and asked, "Why are you pickin' a fight all of a sudden? And right before we get started..." Todoroki shoved Kirishima off him and walked away from the two boys. "We're not here to be each other's friends. Don't forget. This isn't a team effort."

"Wait a sec, Todoroki." Todoroki stopped walking and he looked back at Midoriya. "I don't know what's going on through your head or why you think you'd need to tell me that you'll beat me. And, yeah, of course you're better than me. In fact, you probably have way more potential than anyone in the hero course. That's why you got in so easily."

Kirishima looked at Midoriya, put his hands in front of his chest and smiled. "Midoriya, maybe you're being a little hard on yourself, and us." "No, he's right, you guys." Midoriya interrupted Kirishima. "All the other courses... they're coming for us with everything they've got. We're all gonna have to fight to stand out. And I'll be aiming for the top, too." "Fine." Todoroki spat back at Midoriya. Bakugo let out a tsk and the class was at last called to the field for the festival to start.

"Hey-ooo!" Present Mic screamed into the microphone, as if his voice couldn't get any louder. "Make some noise, all you rabid sports fans! Get those cameras prepped, media hordes! This year, we're bringing you some of the hottest performances in U.A.'s festival history, guaranteed! I've only got one question before we start this show: Are you ready? Let me hear ya scream as our students make their way to the main stage!"

Miku and Vanessa stepped into the arena along with the rest of their class. "The first group are no strangers to the spotlight! You know them for withstanding a villain attack... They're the dazzling students lighting up your TVs with solid-good skills. That's right! It's the hero course students of Class 1-A!" Miku, Vanessa, and their class stepped into the middle of the arena as Present Mic had announced them.

"Present Mic sure did talk us up a lot." Kirishima said. "You got a point there...!" Vanessa laughed nervously, her body starting to quiver. Kirishima chuckled, "Kinda makes me nervous. How you feelin', man?" "I'm not worried." Bakugo said with an evil-like smirk on his face. "Makes me wanna win this thing even more." Miku laughed at Bakugo's words while Vanessa just sighed.
