The next morning, me, May and Wally went to the Lavaridge Gym. Steven wanted to talk with Brendan, which explained his absence.
Once we entered the Gym, we saw the Gym Leader. She was exercising with her Torkoal on a balance beam.
Flannery: Sorry I didn't see you.
She jumped off of the platform and greeted us.
Flannery: Which one of you is here for the Gym Battle?
I gestured to myself, volunteering for the battle.
Flannery: Alright, then. Follow me!
May: Good luck!
Wally: You got this!
I followed Flannery to the battlefield. She had a Poké Ball in her hand, ready for action!
She sent out a Slugma!
May accessed her Pokédex to identify the Pokémon.
Pokédex: Slugma, the Lava Pokémon. A Fire-type. Instead of blood, magma flows through this Pokémon's veins! Due to that, Slugma always has the essential nutrients and oxygen it needs.
Cameron: Kirlia, go!
Kirlia bowed toward her opponent with complete modesty!
Flannery: Let's do this!
Cameron: You said it!
Flannery: Use Flame Burst!
Slugma blasted a fireball at the ground, bursting around the field on impact!
Cameron: Incoming!
Kirlia used ballet, dancing away from the bursting flames!
Cameron: Thunderbolt!
Kirlia blasted a Thunderbolt and scored a successful hit on Slugma.
Flannery: Use Body Slam!
Slugma jumped and dropped down toward Kirlia at full body weight!
Cameron: Stop Slugma with Confusion!
Kirlia left Slugma suspended in the air with Confusion! She dropped Slugma to her face and trasferred her psychic energy from Confusion to her palms and legs and relentlessly slammed Slugma over and over. Once Slugma was nearly at its limit, Kirlia shot it back to Flannery's side of the field!
Flannery, at first flustered, composed herself and sent out her next Pokémon, a Growlithe.
Cameron: Want to keep going?
Kirlia shook her head, wanting to take a breather from battling.
Cameron: I understand.
I returned Kirlia to her Poké Ball and sent out Camerupt as a substitute.
Camerupt roared after exiting its Poke Ball!
Flannery: Size won't make this difficult! Growlithe, Flame Wheel!
Growlithe enveloped itself in flames as it began to roll toward Camerupt.
Cameron: Stand your ground!
Camerupt dug its feet into the ground, keeping a steady stance.
When Growlithe hit Camerupt...
Cameron: Counterattack with Lava Plume!
Camerupt blasted lava from its humps and beat Growlithe back!
Cameron: Rock Slide!
Camerupt damaged Growlithe with Rock Slide!
