Pokémon Adventures 2: The Yellow Chapter

Series 4 Chapter 33: The Sunyshore Power Crisis!

After an arduous amount of walking, we arrived at Sunyshore City. I heard it was supposed to be an illuminating city, but all except for a few lights are out.

Cameron: What is happening here? It's like a modern Dark Ages.

Riley: I'm not very sure. We better find the Gym Leader and figure out a solution.

We scoured the entire city for the Gym Leader. After an hour, the lights came back on.

Dawn: This power problem is growing drastic. We'd better hurry!

The last place we looked was at a lighthouse. There, a man and his friend were conversing.

???: Come on, Volkner. You can't quit now! There's still so many Trainers looking to sharpen their skills.

Volkner: Really? I haven't seen a lot of Trainers make it here.

???: That's because it's hard for them to earn Gym Badges.

When the man with red hair saw us, he gestured us to come.

Flint: Hello, you all! My name is Flint. This man here is Volkner, Sunyshore's Gym Leader.

Volkner focused his eyes on me as Flint went on.

Flint: I'm guessing you're here because of those power outages?

Cameron: Yes. What's going on?

Flint: You see, Volkner often does electrical research if he's bored. They didn't cause any trouble, but I guess it's been causing a lot of outages throughout Sunyshore.

Cameron: Out of boredom?

Flint: Sounds really out of context, doesn't it?

Cameron: A little.... Wait, how about a battle? I still need a bit of practice.

Flint: I'll take that challenge.

Flint sent out an Infernape!

Cameron: Let's do this, Pikachu!

Pikachu jumped from my shoulder and landed on her feet!

Flint: Let's ace this! Infernape, Fire Blast!

Infernape blew a tough Fire Blast!

Cameron: Pikachu, dodge it and use Mega Kick!

Pikachu avoided Fire Blast and prepared Mega Kick!

Flint: Infernape, Fire Spin!

Infernape trapped Pikachu in its Fire Spin! Pikachu began to get damaged from the vicious flames!

Cameron: Thunderbolt!

Pikachu fired Thunderbolt, but it failed as the flames absorbed it!

Cameron: What the?!

Flint: Surprised? I trained Infernape for every possible contingency ever since it was a Chimchar. We are tough fighters! Use Bulldoze!

Infernape caused small but heavy tremors with a single stomp of its foot! Pikachu was in trouble for sure. However, Pikachu went on all fours and generated electricity underneath her. She then sent it to Infernape, who was hit heavily by rising electric currents!

Cameron: What? What move was that?

Volkner spoke up to answer my question.

Volkner: That was Rising Voltage. An Electric-type move that can be boosted in Electric Terrain.

Cameron: Ah, sweet! Pikachu, Rising Voltage!

Pikachu uses its new move once again, nearly defeating Infernape!

Flint: Let's show this kid how we roll! Use Flare Blitz!

Infernape jumped forward, shrouding itself in flames! Infernape then increased its power by turning the flames blue! Pikachu was overwhelmed and taken down easily!

Cameron: You okay?

Pikachu nodded. It felt dazed, but perfectly fine.

Cameron: You did a good job. Nice work!

Pikachu smiled for its rewarded effort.

Flint: You did amazing. You nearly had me there. So, Volkner? Want to give this kid a chance?

Volkner took a long look at me as he mellowed over his decision. His answer soon became clear.

Volkner: Alright. Meet me at the Gym tomorrow afternoon. Don't be late.

Cameron: Whooo! Yes! I promise, I won't be a minute later!

Volkner nodded and started for the Gym.

Flint: Thanks a lot. Volkner has a chance to regain his passion. Give him a good match tomorrow.

Cameron: Promise! In fact, I'd better get training!

I sent out all five Pokémon and got training immediately! My final Badge is within my grasp!
