After Paani was a friend to the Octonauts for a good amount of time, like with everyone else, the Captain began to see Paani as his new adopted son.
When Tweak realized that the Captain was being "Daddy" to Paani, she gathered everyone into the kitchen for a "Welcome to the Family celebration" that resulted in Paani leaving with half the dinner table and a whole truckload of fish biscuits and his favorite kelp cakes cos the Vegimals were so happy about having a new "big brother".
The Captain actually had to drive him in the Gup-E and carry all the food out with Paani cos there was so much.
Along with the Captain seeing Paani as his "son", Inkling now sees Paani as a new "grandson" and whenever Paani wants him to, he'll read Paani a story and make him a cup of his special cocoa (He adds a little bit of cinnamon to it to make it taste better.)
Whenever Paani promises Shellington that they'll do some hydrology experiment, Paani usually ends up playing with the kids right afterwards cos he loves them as his little baby siblings so much.
Every time Paani stays the night, the Captain brings him like 1,000 blankets and fluffy pillows cos he doesn't want his "son" to be cold in the night, and will sit with him and stroke his head to calm Paani down enough for him to go to sleep.
Now whenever everyone has movie night, the Captain has one more "child" of his to cuddle, and he loves it so much.
