Everyone on the Octopod (minus the Vegimals cos babies) have lost at least one baby tooth in their lives (or needed one pulled out).
The adults can still remember the first time they lost a baby tooth.
The Captain remembers slipping, falling on ice, and a little white object the color of the snow flying out of his mouth. For some reason he was absolutely fascinated by it, and was so proud of himself for getting it out.
The first time one of Kwazii's teeth fell out, he burst into tears cos he was so scared that he'd need dentures. But his mother pulled her sweet little kitty into her lap, scratched him behind his ears until he calmed down, and reassured him that he was just losing his baby teeth to make room for his "big boy teeth"
The first time Peso lost one of his baby teeth, he was so scared that he ran to his "mami" and showed her the tooth. His mother only smiled, sat her baby chick in her lap, and explained the whole thing to him.
The first time Shellington lost a tooth, it was still in his mouth when Pearl pointed it out to him, and he promptly swallowed it out of surprise. The next 3 days or so were dedicated to getting Shellington to get the tooth out of his digestive tract.
When Dashi lost her first tooth, she was slightly confused as to why her tooth fell out, but once her parents told her about the tooth fairy, she was so excited and even tried staying awake to catch the tooth fairy (It didn't work, her father just put her back to bed and snuck the coin under her pillow).
The first time Tweak lost a tooth, she was so fired up about it and wanted to show her dad immediately. Ranger Marsh was a little overwhelmed that his little Tweaky already lost her first tooth, but he thought she looked absolutely adorable with a gap in between her teeth, and when he told her about the tooth fairy, she was like "ew, I don't like fairies." So Ranger Marsh
quickly changed it to a tooth elf, and Tweak was happy.Pulling extremely loose baby teeth out is a hassle for everyone involved from a 7-year-old Kwazii running away from his parents screaming when they suggested they pull a very loose tooth out to Dashi letting her parents put the floss in her mouth when she was 9 and then crying her eyes out cos she was scared.
The kids are the same way, if not worse. They will immediately clamp their paws/tentacles/flippers to their mouths as tightly as they can when Peso asks them to show him their super loose tooth.
After talking to his "mama" over the Octo-Tablet, and her confessing that she used to wait until he, Pogo, and Pinata were asleep before pulling their teeth, he had an idea.
Peso decided that if he gave the kids a melatonin supplement at bedtime to put them into a deeper sleep than usual and then pulled their loose tooth out, they wouldn't feel any pain and they wouldn't fight him.
He presented the idea to the kids, and told them that they didn't have to do it if they didn't want to. The two older kids agreed, but in a display of little-kid-stupidity, the two younger kids came up with their own plan.
Since they didn't trust the adults to pull their loose teeth out, they allowed EACH OTHER to pull their teeth out by smacking the other in the mouth until the tooth came out.
After Peso presented the melatonin idea to them and they refused, Peso and Dashi came up with a compromise. If they couldn't get the tooth out by bedtime, then they had to give the melatonin method a try.
The first time Pinto had a loose enough tooth, he went to Jane and asked her what to do. She had no idea, so he suggested a kiss to "suction the tooth out". She smacked him across the face for it and somehow knocked his tooth out, which he was ecstatic about.
