Comfort Objects

Almost everyone on the Octopod has one, even if no one's willing to admit it.

Shellington's magnifying glass is his. He takes it on missions, to conferences, and everywhere else he goes. He doesn't know why, but it somehow calms his nerves in stressful situations.

Whenever the Captain has to carry one of his babies to bed, he always checks to see if they have their special blanket/plushie before turning the lights off. If they don't, the Captain has been known to turn the whole Octopod upside down looking for it cos he couldn't stand the thought of his baby going to sleep without their "special nighttime buddy"

Tweak has a carrot plushie with button eyes that Dashi made for her. And though she denies it every time Kwazii makes fun of her for it, she loves that thing to bits, and refuses to part with it cos Dashi gave it to her.

Peso has around 100 or so stuffed animals that he loves all the same, but he has one special one that he loves above them all.

It's a little plush penguin that his mother made for him when he was a tiny little chick, and it had "Te quiero, mijo" sewn on the back.

Everyone on the Octopod decided that if Peso loves it so much, than it's their baby as well. They will let no harm come to that plushie ever. Once when Kwazii was accidentally about to step on it, Tweak stopped him and slapped him over the head for it.

Jane and Pinto both have a comfort object that they're probably too attached to for their ages, but Dashi and Peso realize that they'd be huge hypocrites of they made their little siblings give up their comfort objects cos they're probably even more attached to theirs.

No, Pinto's old blankie that his mother gave him as a baby with his name sewn on it went to fricking medical school with him, and Jane took Laika to Vidcon with her.

Koshi had a Donna Doxie blanket that Dashi gave her at the very beginning of her lifelong obsession, 3 years old. She got so attached to it that she brought it everywhere with her, even as an adult, Dashi cut off a tiny bit of the bottom and let Koshi take it to her first author's conference with her.

Squirt didn't have a stuffed toy until he came onto the Octopod and all the other kids (and Shellington ;)) made him a little octopus. Obviously, it's the other kids and Shellington, so the tentacles were all of different lengths and there was a little lump on its head that felt really soft. He still loves it to pieces, and it became his comfort toy. He even took it to college.
