Everyone on the Octopod (minus the baby Vegimals) has had their minds do this to them randomly, and they can all tell anyone, it's not fun. It hurts.
The Captain often feels like the worst captain in the world, and that he isn't doing everything he's supposed to be doing. The crew instantly knows when he starts feeling this way and all of them run up to him and give him at least 1 million hugs and promises him that he's the best captain in the world, and they wouldn't trade him for anything.
All the guardians have had those moments where they feel that they've failed their siblings/nephew because they feel as if they can't give the kid everything that they need and that the kid would be better off with someone else. Whenever they go to the Captain with these worries, the Captain always sits them in his lap or cuddles them and tells them that they were and are the best person to care for the kid, that he knows they'll do great, and that he can always help them in any way he can.
Whenever Shellington works until 5 AM on a science analysis or experiment and it isn't going too well, he can and will fall to pieces over something as little as the eraser not erasing all the pencil marks completely. When he does, all the Vegimals will run up to their "Daddy" and tell him that they think he's the smartest and coolest "Shellydo" in the whole world, and they love his work. Shellington begins to tear up even more after this because his babies are so sweet and they love him so much despite all his mistakes and imperfections
Tweak has physically, mentally, and emotionally destroyed herself when an engine or a Gup just wasn't going to work. When she does get really upset over a Gup, she'll first get really, really angry and she'll kick the thing, yell at it, cuss at it, etc. but after a while she starts feeling hopeless and mad at herself, so she usually flops onto her bed and tries not to cry. If Dashi sees her bestie like this, Dashi will immediately give Tweak a hug no matter how angry she is, and tell her, "It's OK, Tweaky. I love your machine. You did wonderful." and she'll try to help Tweak fix it as best as she can.
Koshi is the type of person to be satisfied with her writing at first, but once she sees someone else's writing, she'll be like, "Wow, they're amazing" and she starts feeling bad about her own and comparing her writing to theirs.
Jane has somewhat of a similar problem. She sees the way Dashi and Koshi are, and in her mind she's like, "Damn, why can't I do that?" and she gets sad because her sisters seem so perfect in everything they do while she just makes a crapload of cartoons.
