February - After two years
"Doc, how are they?" Tricia inquired, recognizing Vince and Greg were both in the operating room battling for their lives.
"We are doing the best we can, Mrs. Gomez. As of now, we have them still in operation. The biggest thing we need to worry about is not just what you're seeing on the surface, but all the damage it can do internally. Maybe damage to ligaments, to nerves, to tendons, bones, all these sorts of things that we're going to be looking for."
"What's my dad's condition, Doc?" Abbey couldn't stop herself from questioning, "Greg Martinez."
"Well, Mr. Martinez has been currently undergoing surgery assuming that we can, if feasible, remove the bullet and treat the damaged lung and whatever else was wounded."
"And my Papa's condition, Doc?" Halley questioned, apprehensive, "Vince Gomez."
"It seems to be unfortunate to hear, but your father is now in life-threatening condition. As predicated on our analysis, we presume this is the second time he has been shot?"
"Yes, Doc, it's the second time," Tricia replied, sobbing.
"I see. An artery was struck in his shoulder, which is among the riskiest shoulder sections to be fired through. I'll be honest, approximately 40% of the patients I manage similar to this survived."
"40 percent?" Tricia remarked almost hesitantly, as though disheartened by what she had heard.
"But there's still a possibility; all we could do now is hope your husband survives. I'm terribly sorry this has happened to them."
"Alright, Doc," Halley responded.
As immediately as Halley and Abbey observed how their mother responded, they approached her. They both seem to be aware of how burdened Tricia has been and how she worries about their fathers.
They attempted to calm Tricia down for they recognized that too much tension was detrimental, especially considering her current condition.
Meanwhile, the defibrillators connected to both Vince and Greg underwent a dramatic failure, displaying a flat line.
"Doc! Code Blue!" A couple of nurses abruptly announced, alarming the surgeons appointed to Vince and Greg's operations.
"Code Blue on 478!" have said the doctor as they hastened to save Vince and Greg, "Conducting CPR! 1..2..3..."
"What's happening through?" Tricia cried, terrified.
She as well as her daughters went straight towards the operating room, although several nurses requested them to remain outside while the operation had been proceeding.
"Charging!"
"Injecting 1-milligram epinephrine..."
"Everyone clear... 200 joules! Clear," the doctors said, performing everything they could to save Greg and Vince's lives.
"Pulse and rhythm check in 2 minutes," according to one of the nurses.
"Everyone clear..."
"2 minutes CPR completed, checking pulse and rhythm... No pulse..."
"200 joules defibrillated."
