Apparition Class

All the students were congratulating Sasuke on the duel; even Zacharias gave him a pat on the back, with Luna by his side.

Sasuke: What are you guys doing here? Didn't you have class somewhere else?

Zacharias: We decided to skip it. We had to see this duel with our own eyes—he said, pointing at Luna.

Astoria: But how did you manage to get in?

Luna: When the duel started, we slipped in quietly. Everyone was so focused that they didn't even notice.

Zacharias: That was an incredible jump Professor Snape made!

Luna: It looked like he was flying.

Astoria: He must be stronger than we thought.

The entire Slytherin house praised their head of house, and rumors began to spread again about the balanced duel between student and master.

A week passed until the weekend arrived when Apparition classes would begin. Sasuke would be the only Slytherin participating, while the others were studying for their N.E.W.T.s in the library.

The Apparition class was scheduled for Saturday morning and would be held in the Great Hall instead of the castle grounds.

When Harry and Hermione arrived at the Great Hall, they saw Ron coming in with Lavender. They entered to find the tables pushed against the windows and the enchanted ceiling darkening above them as students gathered before Professors McGonagall, Snape, Flitwick, and Sprout, the heads of houses, along with a small wizard who Harry assumed was the Ministry's Apparition Instructor.

???: Good morning—said the Ministry wizard as the students arrived, prompting the heads of houses to silence them. My name is Wilkie Twycross, and I will be your Apparition instructor sent by the Ministry for the next twelve weeks. I hope to prepare you for your Apparition exam during this time.

The door to the Great Hall opened, and Draco, Daphne, and Sasuke entered. Many were surprised to see Sasuke since he did not meet the age requirement for the course. The professor was about to speak but was interrupted by Twycross.

Wilkie: Mr. Uchiha, it's good to see you. Ms. Bones informed me about your situation, so please settle in with your friends; the class will begin shortly.

Sasuke simply nodded as he took his place with Daphne and Draco.

Wilkie: As you surely know, it's almost impossible to Apparate or Disapparate within Hogwarts. The Headmaster has lifted the enchantment in the Great Hall for just one hour to allow you to practice. Let me emphasize that you cannot Apparate outside the walls of this Hall, and it would be unwise to attempt it. I would like each of you to position yourselves with three meters of space in front of you.

There was some commotion and shoving as the students separated, pushing and shoving for space. The heads of houses moved among the students, directing them into positions and interrupting the arguments.

Heads: SILENCE!—they shouted, and the students quieted down immediately.

Wilkie: Thank you very much, and now...

He waved his wand, and several ancient hoops appeared on the ground in front of each student.

Wilkie: What you must keep in mind for Apparition are the three D's: Destination, Determination, Decision.

Wilkie: First step! Clearly visualize your desired destination, in this case, inside the hoop.

Wilkie: Now, gently focus on your destination.

Wilkie: Second step! Concentrate on the determination to occupy the visualized space! Let your desire extend from your minds to every particle of your being.

Wilkie: Third step! Only when I give the command... return to your places, feeling as if you are going nowhere, moving with determination! On the count of three: one, two, three.

Sasuke bent down in his place, lost his balance, and fell to the floor, but he wasn't the only one. Suddenly, the entire Hall was filled with staggering students; Daphne lay on her back, and Draco also lost his balance.

Wilkie: Don't worry, don't worry—he said dryly, not seeming to expect any better. Adjust your hoops as before and return to your starting positions.

The second attempt was no better than the first. The third was equally poor. Until something interesting happened.

A terrible scream of pain pierced the air, and everyone looked around to see Susan Bones from Hufflepuff, staggering in the hoop with her left leg five meters away from where she had started. Her housemates rushed to her, and a loud "bang" was heard, followed by purple smoke dissipating to reveal Susan sobbing, her leg magically reattached and visibly horrified.

Wilkie: The 'splinching' or accidental separation of any body part—he said monotonously—happens when the mind is not sufficiently determined. You must always focus on your destination and move without haste but with determination... like this.

Twycross stepped forward, gracefully spun in place with his arms extended, and vanished in a whirl of his robe, reappearing at the back of the Great Hall.

But as he made this appearance, he was being observed by Sasuke, who had activated his Sharingan hours earlier, carefully watching Twycross's muscle movements and magical concentration.

Wilkie: Remember the three D's and try again... one, two, three.

Several students did not attempt it; they were frightened after what had happened to Susan, but Sasuke appeared next to Twycross, surprising him by succeeding on his first try in class.

Wilkie: Congratulations, Mr. Uchiha.

But instead of responding, Sasuke disappeared and reappeared in his original position. All the Slytherins applauded Sasuke's accomplishment.

Wilkie: We will meet again next Saturday, everyone, and remember: Destination, Determination, Decision.

In the emo's mind, all the possibilities of attacks opened up by mastering Apparition passed through his thoughts. With this, he could equal or even surpass the Fourth Hokage.

Weeks went by, and Sasuke mastered Apparition even further, no longer needing to stretch his hands. Sometimes, he changed his destination in the middle of the Great Hall, in the corners.

The Apparition exam in Hogsmeade was scheduled to coincide with his next outing but only for students who had turned 17. Sasuke would participate, as he had received special permission from the Minister of Magic, Amelia Bones.
