Chapter 116

Ko went running, the sounds of loud growling and yelping in the air. She slid across the floor as quietly as she could, the darkness empowering the air as she tried her best not to bump into things. She turned the corner abruptly, her mouth being covered as she was abruptly pulled behind a column, a silent scream in her throat as she looked into the eyes of who had grabbed her. "Hey!" She whispered, looking up into the dark eyes of Jataro. He held a finger to his lips, pointing behind the column as he pulled his hand off of her lips.

They looked around the corner tentatively, the sounds of growling growing louder. "It's not people." Jataro whispered, his lips at her ear. He flicked his flashlight on, the light filling the shadowy hallway.

"Oh no." She whimpered quietly. They had all gotten separated after falling through the floor, a booby trap being set off. "Those freaking spiders are down here. And we have no weapons and we have no idea where Nagi or Masaru are-!" Jataro shushed her again, a glare on his lips. "Jataro, your head." She whispered. He looked up, his forehead the tiniest bit slit. He had fallen on his knife, brushing past it.

"We have to get out of here, find a way back to the surface." He whispered to her. "I don't think they know we're down here." He added, looking around.

"But Nagi and Masaru." She looked around, seeing the spiders searching the hallway. "What do we do?" Jataro narrowed his eyes, glancing at the enemies in the hallway.

"I saw them go down the opposite hallway. I'm sure we can find a way around to meet them." He whispered. "We have to move, and we have to move now. We don't know when Kawaki or anyone can come down." He whispered, wiping the blood off of his forehead. "It's just a scratch."

The spiders in the hallway were growling louder, sniffing like dogs. Jataro narrowed his eyes. "Stay on my ass." He shot at her, removing his large knife from his pocket. He ran hard, Ko darting after him as they kept running. Ko winced, Jataro running fast as he kept an eye out for another way out. "This way!" He yelled, changing directions quickly. She gasped, spying a ladder in the distance.

"Shit this place is like a maze!" She cried, looking behind her. They had a good lead, but the guardians of the pyramid were tracking them, growling getting larger as they kept running. Jataro reached the ladder first, climbing fast. "Trap door!" Ko squealed, pointing. Jataro nodded, placing his flashlight in his mouth as he climbed faster, using both hands. "Hurry, Jataro!" She climbed as well as he reached the door.

Jataro pushed it, the locking mechanism still in place. He used his knife, fiddling with the hatch. "Jataro!" Ko squealed, clutching onto the bars right underneath him. They were dangling in the air, her hands turning white as the spiders finally reached them. "Oh god!" She screamed, kicking as they leered back, clearly about to jump.

Jataro jabbed his knife hard, knocking the metal lock off of the barge. He pushed it hard, climbing faster. He reached down, pulling Ko just in time as the spider jumped, his foot making contact as he kicked it hard. "Got it!" She squealed, slamming the trap door shut hard. She whimpered, looking around. "Jataro, where are we?" She gasped. Jataro narrowed his eyes, looking around as he spent his flashlight out of his mouth.

"Well, fuck me." Jataro shook his head, looking at the complicated cavern system they had stumbled into.

"You sure you guys are okay?" Sasuke asked, looking at Nagi through the necklace. Nagi nodded his back against the wall.

"Just waiting for the others. We said we'd meet here." Nagi whispered. "I'm sure they're fine." He added his head against the wall. He was using the cold wall to clear his face.
