Chapter 16

Y/N awoke in someone's arms, her head groggily on their shoulder. She was warmer then she was before. With a blanket wrapped tightly around her shoulders. "Morning." She mumbled upwards, meeting Naruto's familiar grin.

"Morning babe." He mumbled happily, an excited grin on his face. He lifted her up and carried her bridal style to the bed. "Sasuke went to go get breakfast." He told her as she looked around to see just themselves. Y/N yawned but squealed when Naruto dropped her on the bed fast.

"Baka." She stuck her tongue out and rolled over in her blankets. "What time is it?" She laughed with him, a sparkle in both of their eyes.

"Like 1 o'clock." Naruto laughed at her stance and groaned and started getting up.

"I feel like i slept two hours." She went to her luggage and quickly got out an outfit.

"Hows you sleep?" Naruto asked her gently while watching her getting dressed. She shoved herself into a pair of shorts and tank top on top of her undergarments, after tying her hair back.

"I'm fine. I slept pretty well." Y/N shrugged. She shuffled over to the mirror and looked at her face. She blanched.

"You did wake up on the floor though, so maybe not that well." Naruto frowned. Y/N sighed.

"I said I'm fine Naruto." She insisted again, rolling on a stick of deodorant as she tried to avoid his questioning eyes. "I got up to tend to the fire and fell asleep."

"You could have woken us up." Naruto said lightly. "I mean you look like-!"

"I know." She groaned and dragged her skincare routine into the bathroom. She needed to drag some life back into her face. The truth is that she barely slept a wink. Nightmares and anxiety flooded her dreams as usual.

She washed and scrubbed away at her face as Naruto joined beside her, even letting her put some of the products on him. "This one smells like oranges." Naruto hummed, breathing in the foaming soap.

"Baka." She said lightly, pecking his face softly. "Lets go." Y/N kicked him out of the bathroom so she could pee quickly, then eventually joined him in the bedroom.

"Sasuke is in the dining hall." Naruto held out his arm and allowed Y/N to take it. She kicked on her sandals and followed him down the long elegant hall. It was as equally beautiful as it was as nighttime.

"Do you hear anything?" Y/N said suddenly, her skin prickling. Naruto stopped chattering about whatever he was chattering about as the two of them stopped to listen to the noise coming from the hall.

"Please let me go!" A child's voice whined frantically, clear fear in their voice. Y/N looked at Naruto concerned. "I won't do it again I promise!" He cried out. Y/N and Naruto didn't even wait for a reply, they took off towards the news of the young voice.

Y/N turned the corner, her breath caught in her throat as she saw Sasuke holding a kid in mid air by his ankle. Sasuke looked annoyed, and was shaking him so things fell out of his pocket. "Sasuke!" Y/N yelled frantically as she stormed over, Sasuke looked up bored.

"This brat tried to pick my pocket." Sasuke smirked as he dropped the kid on his stomach. Y/N caught him before he hit the ground, cradling the child against her as he sobbed. "Play stupid games and you win stupid prizes." Sasuke mocked the child, ignoring the crying kid.

"Hey, hey, it's okay." Y/N placed her hand on his cheek and tilted his small face to look her in the eyes. He was crying, but seeing the soft look on her face made him quiet his sobs. "You're okay, I promise." She held him and rocked him in her lap while he fought to calm his sobs.
