Entry 960
Tuesday 14th May 2019After the third degree with Blade, I'm back at home with Mum and Leo. To be honest I'm kind of in shock. Not because of what happened yesterday, but because of what Blade said to me.
I woke up in my clinical room in quarantine, and after having a clinical tasting breakfast on a clinical looking tray, two GRID soldiers in hazmat suits appeared. They told me my test results had come back clear, and they then proceeded to escort me out of the clinical airtight room and down the corridor into the usual cold looking GRID interview room. After a while Helen and Blade arrived. Blade didn't look happy. He and Helen sat on their chairs at the little table opposite me and gave me a disappointing and slightly angry look. "Luke," said Blade bluntly, "Why, whenever there's some sort of drama, are you involved?" "Hang on a minute," I exclaimed in protest, "This has b*gger all to do with me. I was just visiting my Auntie. One minute I'm looking for teabags, the next I'm trapped in a pantry with an old woman talking to me about Japanese Kimonos and Nannette f*cking Newman, whilst infected are outside trying to get in. What the Hell happened? Where did all those infected come from?" "I'm asking the questions," said a firm Blade, "I want you to tell me everything that happened from the second you saw the first infected person in the community hall, to the second we found you." "Is my Auntie Meryl OK?" I asked. "She's fine," said Helen, "Complaining that the breakfast isn't as hot as it should be, but she's fine. Her tests have come back clear, and a GRID soldier is taking her back to Newport." "Now?" I angrily exclaimed, "I wanted to see her." "Luke, I haven't got time for all this," said a firm and impatient Blade, "Your Auntie is fine. We've taken a statement off her and we're even giving her a lift back to Newport. You can catch up with her later today or tomorrow. For now, I need you to answer my questions and give me your version of events."
I told Blade everything that happened, but he kept asking me to repeat myself. It was as if he thought I was lying. I was there for a good couple of hours and I ended up feeling really angry. "Look," I firmly said, "I haven't done anything wrong here. You know that don't you? I mean, all I was doing was visiting my Auntie. If I hadn't had been there, there would have still been an outbreak. It's not like the infected follow me around. I mean for God's sake. Me and my Auntie Meryl nearly died yesterday." "You're not the only one that's had a lot to deal with Luke," said Blade, "I had to evacuate the whole island and put all residents in the underground bunkers as a precaution." "Oh, my heart bleeds," I sarcastically said. "I beg your pardon?" said a firm Blade. "Sorry, but aren't you the man at the top?" I snapped, "The man in charge? I mean it's your job to evacuate everyone when the sh*t hits the fan isn't? I mean, do you actually know what happened? How did the outbreak start?" "We are looking into it," said a firm Blade. "Really?" I said, rolling my eyes. "Yes, really!" snapped firm Blade as he raised his voice, "And an arsey obstructive attitude isn't going to help, it's just going to p*ss me off and you don't want to p*ss me off." I could tell that Blade's anger was increasing so I calmed down. "Look," I said, sighing with frustration, "I've told you everything I know. I'm just as keen as you are to find out what happened." "We're all keen to find out what happened," said Helen. "Natasha will want to have a word with you," said Blade. "What for?" I asked. "You were there when your Auntie killed two infected," said Blade, "Natasha will want to know why you didn't secure and quarantine them." "Oh, she can f*ck right off!" I loudly said, "I thought we were allowed to kill infected if we couldn't quarantine them." "You are," said Blade, "But you're going to have to explain to Natasha why you couldn't quarantine them." "I don't have to explain myself to her," I said. "Yes, you do," said Blade, "She is in charge of The Hive and I have tasked her to gather data on why some infected are quarantined, and why some aren't. The gathering of such data should hopefully help us improve safety." "Killing infected will help us improve safety," I said. "Luke, I don't care that your Auntie killed those infected. I really don't. Some infected were killed and some were secured and sent to The Hive. All I care about is keeping people safe and dealing with this mess I'm left with." "How many infected were sent to The Hive?" I asked, "In fact, how many people died? Have you got the numbers yet?" "I'm going to be making a public announcement tomorrow once I've finalised a few things," said Blade. "Can't you just tell me now?" I asked. "No," said a firm Blade, "You'll be told tomorrow along with everyone else when I made my public announcement. You might think you're entitled to special treatment, Luke, but you're not." "Oi, there's no need for that," I said, "I don't think I'm entitled to special treatment at all." I was p*ssed of with Blade at this point and I started to feel a bit cocky.
"You're telling me not to p*ss you off but maybe you should think about not p*ssing me off," I firmly said. "Excuse me?" Blade said firmly. "I know about your little secret," I said to Blade, "That it was Tara who stopped the world from being nuked, not GRID. Me and Roz promised to keep our mouths shut, but if you keep having a go at me, I might just open my mouth and tell everyone that it was the enemy who stopped the world from being blown up, not GRID." Blade's face immediately changed. He gave me a terrifyingly intimidating expression, coupled with intense rage as he showed me the whites of his eyes. I felt my heart rate increase as Blade's expression, along with the look of worry on Helen's face unsettled me. I sat back in my chair noticing how nervous I suddenly I felt. "Well..." I said, trying to calm Blade down, "I mean... I ... Well... What I mean is...." "Now listen to me, you worthless little sh*t," Blade said in a scary and intimidating tone as he interrupted me, "If I think for one single second that you are going to do anything that compromises the safety and security of this island, I will have you shot." Helen gasped and was clearly taken aback – as was I. "You what!?" I exclaimed. "You heard me," said a firm Blade, maintaining scary eye contact and not moving a muscle. "Perhaps we should just calm down a bit," said Helen. "No," said Blade in a firm tone, "As GRID Commander and head of safety and security on this island, I am authorised to take any and all action I deem necessary to maintain the safety and security, and whilst I never thought I would have to make such a statement I am telling you now Luke Warm, that if I think you are a serious threat to the safety or security of this island, I will have you shot. Do you understand?" I turned and looked at Helen. She initially appeared shocked at what Blade said, but now she seemed rather complacent. "Is he allowed to say that to me?" I asked Helen. "Oh, I am most definitely allowed to say it," said a firm Blade, "And I will most definitely do it, so I repeat; if I think you are a serious threat to the safety or security of this island, I WILL have you shot. Do you understand?" There was a short pause. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. "DO YOU UNDERSTAND!?" Blade aggressively shouted. "Yes, yes, yes," I gasped, jumping back in my chair and feeling the force of Blade's aggression, "I understand." "Good," said Blade, "Now get out of here."
