Entry 992
Saturday 15th June 2019I knew this good feeling wasn't going to last!
One of Blade's GRID soldiers came round today. The usual type; a moody looking bloke with more muscles than brains. He knocked on the door, and with a stern and slightly bored look on his face, said nothing and handed me a piece of paper. "Yes, good morning," I sarcastically said. I retrieved the paper and read what was on it. I digested the sh*tty information and then looked back at the GRID ape. "Great," I moaned, "Just great. Is there any point in me complaining and protesting about this?" The GRID soldier shook his head. "Wonderful," I sarcastically said, "Well thank you so much for this. You've made my day." The soldier informed me that someone would be moving into the house next door to us the day after tomorrow. He then left and I shut the door.
I walked back into the living room where Nikki was playing with Leo. "Who was it?" she asked. "Someone from GRID," I said, "They've allocated me a new job." "Well, you don't look very happy about it," said Nikki. "I'm not," I bluntly said. "Well, what is it?" asked Nikki, "Whatever it is, it can't be as bad as being a street cleaner." I handed Nikki the piece of paper and I saw her face change from intrigue to discomfort as she read what was on it. "Oh dear," she said. "Exactly," I said, "I'm working as a cleaner at The Hive!" "No, it doesn't say cleaner," said Nikki, "It says Facility Assistant." "That's a posh way of saying cleaner," I moaned, "Look at the job description; mopping, sweeping. I'm basically doing what I was doing in Cowes, except this time I'll be at The Hive in Blackgang. I'm going to see infected every day. Look what it says here... I'm expected to assist in the quarantining and care of infected when appropriate. F*cking great! I spent the last few years killing them and trying to stay out of their way, and now I've got to look after the f*ckers." I know it's sh*t babes," said Nikki, "But at least it's a job." "It's a bl**dy awful job... and look at this!" I aggressively snapped pointing at the piece of paper, "Natasha is going to be my boss. She's going to love lording it over me. I think I'd rather be in Cowes sweeping up litter and picking up dog sh*t." "Well at least your shifts are only four hours long," said Nikki. "Well maybe I can have a good moan tomorrow with Sci-Fi Cyn," I said, "That'll make me feel a bit better." "You're seeing that weirdo again?" said Nikki. "I told you," I said, "We're going to try and see each other every couple of days. Two days ago, she came here and then two days later I'll got to Cowes to see her. I'll probably see Mum too." "Well, how are you going to see her tomorrow when you start your new job tomorrow?" asked Natasha. "I'll finish my shift and then get the bus," I said. "Oh?" snapped Nikki, "So will I see you at all tomorrow?" "Yeah..." I said, "I'm just going to be in Cowes for the afternoon." "I don't know why you need to speak to that sci-fi weirdo," said Nikki, "I'm your girlfriend. You can talk to me. In fact, I should be your first choice when it comes to needing someone to talk to." "Well, yeah you are," I said, "It's just that I need friends in my life too. You could do with making friends too. Actually, that GRID nob said we're going to be getting some new neighbours the day after tomorrow. You never know, it might be a nice family. Me and you could make some adult friends and Leo could have someone to play with." "Hmmm," said an unimpressed Nikki, "Or it could be a bunch of noisy, smelly arseholes that make a racket and leave a mess. Let's wait and see the state of them before we go getting excited. What time will you be home from Cowes?" "Well my shift is eight till twelve, I'll get the bus and be in Cowes for about one. I'll go round to Cyn's and we'll probably have a cuppa at Sails Café. I'll go round and see Mum. Hopefully Auntie Meryl won't be there, so I'll get the bus back and be home about five ish." "Right," said Nikki, "Well I'll get dinner ready for five."
I have mixed feelings about tomorrow. I'm looking forward to seeing Mum and catching up with Sci-Fi Cyn at Sails Café, but I'm really not looking forward to starting this sh*tty new job at The Hive and being bossed around by Natasha. I suppose I just need to try and make the best of it, but I certainly don't think it's going to be easy....
