Entry 1031
Wednesday 24th July 2019There's been an interesting development at The Hive today, but more importantly I COMPLETELY embarrassed myself again when doing my volunteering, and I am definitely not going back to the old people's home.
Work was interesting. Someone tried to break into The Hive. There's a fire exit at the back of the monitoring station that leads to the outside. It looks like someone's tried to force the door open with a crowbar. Gary, Natasha and I were inspecting the door and talking about the situation. "This shouldn't be happening," snapped an angry Natasha, "There are GRID soldiers here 24 hours a day." "To be fair, Natasha," said Gary, "We spend most of our time up on the walkways looking down at the infected." "Well, you should be keeping an eye on all of the entrance and exits," snapped Natasha. "With respect, Natasha," said Gary, "You're not my boss." "You don't have a boss right now," said Natasha. "True," said Gary, "But that's not going to last for long when an announcement is made in a day or so." "An announcement?" I said, "What do you mean? Do you know who's taking over from Blade." "Sorry, Chuckles," said Gary, "But I can't say anything at the moment." "Well, I have a right to know who's taking over from Blade," snapped Natasha. "You'll know when you know," said Gary. "Look," said Natasha, "Whoever's taking over from Blade needs to come and speak to me. Blade just left, and we've got lots to talk about. We need to get back to utilising the infected, we need to talk about more QCUC proposals, and we need to discuss what's going on with the cure." "I'm sure the new acting Commander will come and see you," said Gary. "He'd better," said Natasha, "But in the meantime, I will be your line manager." "No, you won't," said Gary in a soft but firm tone, "It's not going to happen." "Someone has tried to break in," snapped Natasha, pointing at the slightly damaged fire exit door, "And as far as I'm concerned it could the same person who killed the infected people we put on the beach." "I suppose it could be," said Gary. "And that's why I want you and the soldiers keeping a close eye on this fire exit," said a firm Natasha, "I don't want someone getting in here and trying to kill the infected residents." "Heaven forbid the poor infected people break a nail," I bluntly said. "I'm talking about them all being killed," said a firm Natasha, "Now listen to me, Gary." "No," said Gary, interrupting Natasha, "You listen to me. Now, I'll have a chat with the lads and make sure they keep an eye on this fire exit, but don't think you're in charge of us or that you can talk to me or the other soldiers like this. You're not my boss, Natasha. In fact, you're not even GRID staff. Now let's not fall out. I'm all for keeping the peace but let's talk to each other with resect, yeah?" Natasha did not look happy. She gave Gary a firm look and then walked off. "Check out the big tough guy," I said with a smile on my face as I patted him on the back. "Well, I certainly don't go looking for trouble," said Gary, "But if it comes my way, I'm going to deal with it." "Anyway," I said, "Come on, Gary. Who's going to be the new Commander?" "Sorry, Chuckles," said Gary, "I really can't say anything. You'll know soon."
I met with Cyn and Mike. We were supposed to meet at The Beach Café in Sandown, but as I was going to do my volunteering with Mike, I met with both of them at Sails Café in Cowes. We had a chat over a cuppa, but I gave Mike a right telling off. "You really landed me in the sh*t yesterday," I snapped. "What do you mean?" asked a clueless Mike. "You turned up when I told you Nikki didn't want you in the house," I said. "I didn't come in the house," said Mike. "Yeah, but you know what I mean," I said, "It's the same thing." "No, it's not," said Mike, "One of them is where I'm inside and one of them is where I'm outside." "Mike, don't be pedantic," I said, "I told you not to come round and you did. Nikki had a right go at me." "Did she hurt you?" asked Mike, "Do you want me to kill her?" "No!" I loudly exclaimed, "Of course I don't want you to kill her, you f*cking idiot. I just don't want you to turn up unannounced. You said you wouldn't. We had a right argument because of you." "Why did you argue?" asked Cyn, "It's not like you invited Mike round?" "Look," I said, "I don't want to talk about it. Mike, you just need to promise me you won't show up again like that." "Fine," said a stroppy Mike, "I promise I won't show up." "Mind you," I said, "I suppose in a weird way you did us a favour. Nikki and I had a good chat and she told me about her ex-husband that used to be violent towards her and control her." "Oh, is that why she's been violent towards you and trying to control you?" asked Mike. "Mike, shut up," I said, "No one's being violent or controlling anyone." "I didn't know Nikki was married," said Sci-Fi Cyn. "Yeah, it was a bit of a shock to me too," I said, "Anyway, we had a good chat and I kind of know why she loses her tempter sometimes. She was married to a right violent monster. He used to do horrible stuff to her. I suppose when I say something to her, her brain sometimes thinks I'm going to attack her, so she gets ready to attack me first. Anyway, now I understand things a bit more and we've had a good chat, I think things are going to be fine between us." Sci-Fi Cyn and Mike exchanged awkward looks, perhaps suggesting they thought I was a bit naive, but they didn't utter a word. Probably for the best.
