I spoke to Blade today and told him about Nikki receiving the nasty letters. I had a cuppa with Sci-Fi Cyn, and also caught up with Mike.

I'd finished work and was making my way to Sails Café to go and see Sci-Fi Cyn when, as luck would have it, I saw Blade at the top of the High Street talking to two GRID soldiers. I started walking towards him when I saw that he'd finished his discussion with the two soldiers and started to walk off. "JON!" I yelled, "JON!" He returned around, looked at me, rolled his eyes and made it visually obvious that he wasn't exactly over the moon that I wanted to speak to him. I quickly walked over to him and saw the obvious frustration on his face close up. "Hiya," I casually said with a smile on my face. "What do you want, Luke?" Blade bluntly said, "I'm busy. I'm working on finishing off the walls around the four suburbs." How's all that going?" I asked. "Getting there," said Blade, "Nearly done. Now, come on, what do you want? If it's another Luke Warm drama I really don't want to know." I produced the most recent hate letter Nikki had been sent and handed it to Blade. He opened it up, looked at it and then looked back at me. "What's this?" he bluntly asked. "Well, it's not a love letter is it?" I said, "Someone posted it to Nikki." "Nikki?" said Blade. "Nikki Tinsley, "I said, "My girlfriend. You've met her a few times." "She's your girlfriend?" said Blade, sounding surprised. "Yeah," I said. "Well, I guess beggars can't be choosers," said Blade. "Thanks," I bluntly said, "Anyway, that's the second letter someone posted through her door. She got another a few days earlier. It said, you're going to die you worthless b*tch." "What happened to your head?" asked Blade, pointing at the plaster on my forehead. Oh, nothing," I said, "I fell. Anyway, I thought as we don't really have police, you and your soldiers might be able to do something." "And what exactly do you want us to do?" asked Blade. "Look into it," I said. "Luke, we're soldiers, not detectives," said Blade, "And in case you forgot, I lost a lot of my soldiers during the outbreak in what was the quarantined area of Newport, remember? I don't have the resources, especially as we're trying to get the walls finished. Why don't you look into it?" "What do you mean, 'you look into it'?" I snapped, "I'm not a police officer." "Neither am I," said Blade. "Yeah, but you're always going on about safety and security," I said. "Luke, this has nothing to do with safety or security," said Blade, "It's a childish letter." "It's a death threat," I firmly said, "How can you say it has nothing to do with safety?" "Luke, this is kid's stuff," said Blade, "Yes, I get that it needs looking into, but it doesn't mean I'm the one who has to look into it." "Well, what am I supposed to do?" I exclaimed. "Maybe ask your girlfriend who could hate her enough to do something like this," said Blade, "That might be a good start." "Whoever is doing this could be a psycho," I said, "How are you going to feel if next time you see me, I'm telling you that Nikki's been murdered?" "Luke," said Blade, "I'm not an expert but I don't think most psycho killers who are actually going to kill you, send you a letter to say that's what they're going to do. This is obviously some lunatic who's trying to scare your girlfriend. Just ignore it. They want attention. Don't give it to them."

I wasn't happy with Blade's dismissive response, but I thought there was something in his suggestion about not giving these death threats attention. Whoever is sending these letters obviously wants attention, so maybe the best thing to do is not give it to them. They want to see Nikki being upset so perhaps the best thing to do is for Nikki to get on with life and show the world that she isn't bothered. I suggested this to Nikki and told her what Blade said. She wasn't happy. "Typical," said an angry Nikki throwing her arms in the air, "A woman gets threatened and sent horrible abusive letters, and that stupid meathead of a man is more bothered about building walls. Typical man. What an arsehole. OK, well what are you going to do now?" "Well, I think we should just keep an eye on the situation," I said, "Whoever is doing this could be watching you, so just make sure you're acting like you're not bothered. Blade's got a point when he says the idiot that's doing this probably wants attention and probably wants to see you all bothered. Just don't give them what they want." "Well, I still think it's Naomi," said Nikki, "Why else would they call me a lying b*tch?" "Blade said it might be useful to think about anyone who doesn't like you or has a grudge against you," I said. "Naomi!" Nikki loudly said. "Anyone else?" I asked. "What are you trying to say, Luke?" snapped Nikki, "That this island is full of people who hate me?" "No," I said, "But there's clearly one person who doesn't like you if they're going to the lengths of sending you nasty notes." "It's Naomi," said Nikki, "I'm telling you. It's her." "Well, I will have a chat with her and see what she says," I said. "What's the point in having a chat with her?" asked Nikki, "What are you going to do? Ask her if she sent me those horrible letters? She's hardly going to admit to it is she? She didn't even admit to punching me in the face." "Just leave it to me," I said, "I will bring it up in a gentle, casual way and see what she says. I'll also see if we can get that apology out of her."
