Entry 1099
Monday 30th September 2019I had a very strange conversation with Nikki after work today.
After having a bog-standard day at work, Gary gave me a lift back home to get a few things before I headed off to Cowes and Nikki told me she wanted to have a chat with me. She seemed rather calm which is of course completely out of character, so I was obviously rather suspicious. We both sat down in the living room, and I become overwhelmed with this huge sense of caution. "How was work?" Nikki asked, flashing me a smile. I frowned with confusion. This was very unsettling. "OK," I said, "What the f*ck is all this?" "What do you mean?" asked Nikki. "You," I firmly said, "Sitting me down, being nice, smiling, asking me how my day at work was. What's that all about?" "Luke, I'm just trying to be nice," said Nikki. "F*ck off," I said, "You're up to something. You don't do nice." "Well," said Nikki, "I'm disappointed to hear that, but I suppose I can understand what you're saying. Perhaps I haven't been the easiest person to live with." "You've been a f*cking nightmare," I bluntly said. "Well, I thought about what you said yesterday," said Nikki. "Which bit?" I asked, "The bit where I called you a f*cking lunatic?" "The bit where you said you were thinking about walking away, and the bit where you said it might be best if I'd have lost the baby," said Nikki, "It made me realise how far I was pushing you. I want you to be in my baby's life Luke. I don't like Naomi, but I suppose I must accept that she's your girlfriend now, and if I want you to be part of my baby's life, I need to accept that you and Naomi come as a package." "So, what are you saying?" I asked, still maintaining a sense of suspicion. "I'm saying that I'm sick of all the fighting," said Nikki, "It doesn't get us anywhere and it does more harm than good. I suppose I need to try and make more of an effort. If Naomi, can I'm sure I can. Look, get Naomi and Sophie to come over tomorrow and we can all go for a picnic on the beach." "You what?" I exclaimed. "I'll get it all ready. Sandwiches, snacks, that sort of thing. It'll be nice." "Nice!?" I exclaimed, "Yesterday you threw yourself down the stairs and tried to frame Naomi for it, and now you're talking about sitting on the beach playing happy families. What the f*ck is wrong with your head?" "Luke, I realise my behaviour has been... Well," said Nikki, "It's been..." Bat sh*t f*cking crazy," I said. "Yes, well, this is me making the effort," said Nikki, "If you don't want me to, then fine. Just say, but I thought after everything that's happened, you'd appreciate the gesture. I assume you're going to see Naomi later?" "I'm on my way to see her now," I said, "I just came back to pick up a few things." "Then maybe you should put my offer forward to her and see what she says," said Nikki, "I'll prepare the picnic and the four of us can try and enjoy a nice afternoon on the beach. Sophie's a lovely little girl, and maybe me and Naomi have got more in common than we realise." I was of course VERY suspicious, and I still am but I decided to speak to Naomi about what Nikki had said.
When I arrived in Cowes my first port of call was obviously to see Naomi. I told her and Ash what Nikki has suggested. Ash was immediately suspicious like I was, and said Nikki couldn't be trusted, and whilst Naomi agreed she also said we shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth. "So, do you want to actually go on this picnic?" I asked. "Well, it doesn't sound like the most enjoyable picnic," said Naomi, "But if we don't give Nikki a chance, she'll just use this to play the victim and tell us that she tried to make the effort and we wouldn't meet her halfway." "She can't say that" I said, "WE are the ones who've made the effort and all she has done is use various methods to make it difficult for us." "Yes," said Naomi, "But that's not the case now, is it? She's making the effort. Yes, it might all be another attempt to play manipulative mind games and f*ck with us, but it might not be." "Naomi," Ash said bluntly. "She threw herself down the stairs and said that you did it," said Ash, "To do that on one day and then invite you to a picnic the next is a bit weird." "Yeah, well I don't want her to be able to turn round and say that she tried to make the effort and we didn't. I know you two are both suspicious and so am I but I'm thinking about that baby she's carrying. Once that baby comes, we will all probably end up spending more time together so it's best that we all try and find a way to get on and be civil." "And what if this turns out to be another one of her mental mind games?" asked Ash. "Then I'll tell her she's out of order," said Naomi. "Ooooh, you be careful," Ash sarcastically said. "Ash, what do you want me to do?" snapped Naomi, "Kick the sh*t out of her? She's pregnant? I'm the only one who sems to remember that." "You're the only one who seems to care about that," said Ash. "Well maybe you two should care about it a bit more," said Naomi, "Luke she's carrying your baby. Now the crazy b*tch gets right on my nerves, but we must find a way to try and make this work." I suppose Naomi had a point, but it's going to be hard to sit on the beach with Nikki and pretend to play happy families after all the sh*t she's pulled.
Naomi and I went round to Mum and Auntie Meryl's, and I spent some lovely time cuddling and playing with Leo, and then we went to Sails Café and had a chat with Mike and Sci-Fi Cyn over a cuppa. I told everyone about all the drama with Nikki, and of course everyone had an opinion. Cyn thought we should go on the picnic with Nikki but adopt a cautious approach, Mum said she wanted to come saying she wouldn't trust Nikki as far as she could throw her knickers, Auntie Meryl said she needs her arse kicking into the middle of next week after throwing herself down the stairs and trying to blame Naomi, and Mike said I should take a knuckle duster just in case it all kicked off on the beach. Nice...
When I got home, I told Nikki that Naomi had agreed to come along to the picnic on the beach that she suggested, Nikki seemed rather happy, and she immediately went into the kitchen and started preparing sandwiches. Still feeling rather cautious I joined Nikki in the kitchen and helped her with the sandwiches. It's weird but it was kind of nice both of us in the kitchen preparing food, having a laugh, and talking about what a tw*t Tinsley is. I suddenly caught me self-enjoying Nikki's company. It was nice, Weird, but nice.
I'm in bed now and I am feeling all conflicted. Part of me is relieved that Nikki and I had a nice evening in without any arguing, but another part of me – perhaps a bigger part, is still suspicious, but we've told Nikki that we're up for the picnic, so let's see what happens tomorrow. Maybe this is the start of Nikki acting like a decent human being. I hope I'm right, but after everything Nikki's done, something's telling me that a cautious approach, like Sci-Fi Cyn says, would be a good idea.
