I've figured out why Mia was acting so weird with me yesterday!

Naomi and I were in Sails Café with Mike, Sci-Fi Cyn and Mia. We were having our usual chat over a cuppa when attention turned to the inevitable issue of Blade's whereabouts and Mia's baby. "Mia, you know Luke can't spend forever walking around Cowes on his own waiting for Blade to show up, don't you?" said Naomi in a gently voice. "Yeah, I know," said Mia, casually, "It'll be alright. Do they have any cake? I am just in the mood for some Victoria Sponge. I wonder if there's a person called Victoria Sponge?" "That's odd," Naomi said, giving me a confusing look. "It's not that odd," said Mike, "I used to go to school with a boy called Amil FaFour. His Dad used to run an Indian takeaway. The weird thing was that he used to do a meal for four." "No," said Naomi, "I don't mean that. I mean Mia's acting weird." "What do you mean?" asked Mia. "Well, the other day you were angry that Luke was in here instead of being out there to draw Jon out of hiding," said Sci-Fi Cyn, "And now... Well... Sorry, but it looks like you're not bothered about getting your daughter back." "I have to say, Mia," I said, "I was surprised when I saw you unusually talking about baking yesterday instead of asking me if I'd seen Blade." "Oh, stop being all negative," said Mia, "There's been too much negativity around here. We should be happy that I'm back. You all thought I was dead a few weeks ago, and now look at me, back here, large as life." "Yeah, Mia," said Naomi, "We get that, but it's just a bit odd seeing you go from being all angry and worried about your baby one minute, to talking about making and eating cakes, the next," said Naomi, "Is something going on?" "No, don't be silly," said Mia, "I just think there's been too much stressing around here lately. We should all cheer up. We're alive in the middle of an apocalypse. That's great. Life could be worse." "Well, if Blade is on the island he needs to come out of hiding, show his face and stop being a coward," said Mike. "He's not a coward," said a firm Mia, "He's been through a lot." "You mean in Whitby?" I asked. "Well... Yeah," said Mia, "And he went through a lot just before he left the island, and his partner got killed." "The partner that he secretly hid underneath GRID HQ," said Mike. "Yeah, but she was still his partner," said Mia, "Finding out that she was dead was bound to upset him. He's been through a lot." "Mia, he has been through a lot," said Sci-Fi Cyn, "And I do worry about him. I worked with him, but I think he's become a danger to himself and to others. He needs help." "He's not a danger to anyone," said an assertive Mia. "Mia, he was going to kill Seth," said Naomi. "Anyway," I said to Mia, "Why do you care so much?" "What do you mean?" asked Mia. "Blade's kidnapped your baby," I said, "Why are you sticking up for him?"  "I'm not," said Mia. "Well, it sounds like you are," said Mike. "I just think we should have some sympathy for him," said Mia. "For the man who was going to kill your fiancé and kidnapped your daughter?" said Mike, "I wouldn't give him sympathy. I'd give him a knuckle sandwich wrapped in barbed wire." We carried on talking more and I couldn't help but feel confused and suspicious of Mia.

Once we left the café, we all said our goodbyes, Mike and Sci-Fi Cyn walked off and Mia started to walk off. I followed Mia, and an intrigued Naomi followed me wondering what I was doing. I took hold of Mia's arm and stopped her from walking off. "He's, here isn't he??" I said to Mia. "What?" said Mia, looking and sounding nervous. "You know what I'm talking about," I assertively said, giving me a serious look, "Blade's on the island isn't he? You've met him. That's why you're not worried anymore. You've seen him, haven't you?" "No," Mia said quietly, lowering her head and looking away from me. "Don't lie to me, Mia," I firmly said, "I can tell when you're lying." "Mia, what's going on?" asked Naomi, "Just tell us." There was a short but tense pause. "Fine," said Mia, giving a depressing sigh, "Jon is on the island. He came up to me yesterday morning when there was no one around." "Why the Hell didn't you tell us?" snapped Naomi. "Because you want my baby dead!" Mai snapped at Naomi, "I remember what you said in Whitby. "Mia, I've been walking around like a lost dog for days now," I firmly said, "Were you just going to let me walk around with no idea as to whether Blade was here or not?" "I don't know," said Mia, "I wasn't thinking too much into the future. I'm just glad that I've got to spend time with my daughter." "Where is he?" Naomi asked. "I'm not telling you," said Mia. "Mia!" I angrily snapped. "I'm not telling," Mia repeated sounding more assertive, "He's in a safe place, and I get to see my daughter." "Mia, if you don't tell us where Blade is, I'm going to tell Tinsley," said Naomi. "You what?" gasped Mia in outrage. "Mia," said Naomi, "Have you forgotten why Blade's here? The idea is that he gives your baby back to you so Luke can give him this fake cure." "Why has he approached you and not me?" I asked, "My God, you haven't told him that the cure I have is a fake one, have you?" "No, I haven't told him about the fake cure," said Mia, "I'm just more bothered about spending time with my daughter. The reason Jon has approached me and not you is because he wants to give me the opportunity to spend time with my little girl before GRID take her off me. He just wants me and my daughter to spend some time together." "So, he's doing all this out of the goodness of his heart is he?" I bluntly asked. "His partner was infected," said Mia, "And he wanted to spend as much time with her as possible. He knows what it's like to have a loved one who's infected. He knows what it's like to have an infected family member who people want to kill or dissect or do experiments on. He understands." "Understands!?" exclaimed Naomi, "He killed Joan. He was going to kill Seth! Have you forgotten that?" "No," said Mia. "Then what the Hell are you playing at!?" snapped an angry Naomi. "I want to spend time with my daughter!" Mia snapped, "That's all I care about! Jon was going to find Luke but he wanted me to have time with my daughter first." "Oh God," I gasped, suddenly realising something worrying, "Have you told your Dad about Blade?" "No," said Mia, "I haven't told anyone. Jon made me promise." "Well, that's something," I said, "We can't have you Dad getting hold of this information." "Right," said an assertive Naomi, "Mia, we need to arrange a meet between Blade and Luke." Mia didn't look happy. "This can only end one way," Naomi assertively said, "Your baby ends up at GRID HQ and Blade ends up in prison." "He thinks that once he gets his hands on this cure that he'll be able to take over from Tinsley and be commander again," said Mia. "He obviously doesn't know what Tinsley is planning," I said, "Mia... You haven't told him that Tinsley is going to ambush him, have you?" "No," said Mia, "I haven't said anything. I just want to spend time with my daughter." "You can spend time with your daughter at GRID HQ," said Naomi, "Sorry Mia but we can't let an unhinged person like Jon Blade be left alone on the island with a gun and an infected baby, you must see that." "Mia, your baby will be safer at GRID with your Dad involved than she will be with Blade," I gently said, "You do get that don't you?" Mia reluctantly nodded her head. "Right," said Naomi, "You go and speak to Blade and arrange a time to take Luke to see him tomorrow." "No," said Mia, "He won't want you knowing where he is." "Well, we need to talk," I said. "Yeah, but you don't need to tell Tinsley, do you?" asked Mia, "Not yet anyway?" "OK, not yet," I said, "But we are going to have tell Tinsley sooner or later." "Let's go with later," said Mia. "OK," I said, "For now we don't need to tell Tinsley but I need to meet Blade and we need to have a chat." "Yeah, but it's all leading to Blade getting put in prison isn't it?" said Mia. "Of course, it is, Mia!" exclaimed an angry and impatient Naomi, "It's a shame it's come to this but Blade has only got himself to blame." "You've got to promise not to tell Blade what we're planning," I said, "Seriously Mia. I mean it. You need to promise." "Fine," snapped Mia, "I promise." "OK," I said, "You go to Blade and tell him that I'll met him somewhere tomorrow. Anywhere he wants. Up to him, but it needs to be somewhere quiet, discreet and out of the way. I'll hand him the cure when he hands me the baby." "Are you going to tell Tinsley?" There was a short pause. "No," I said, "I'll give Blade the cure, Blade can give me the baby and that's when I'll tell Tinsley."

Mia left to go and see Blade. I was tempted to follow her but I decided not. Naomi and I talked about the situation. I told her that I thought she was too hard with Mia, and she told me she thought I was too soft.

In the evening Mia came round and I took her in the kitchen where Mum and Auntie Meryl couldn't overhear us talking. She told me that she'd spoken to Blade and that he said he wanted to meet me outside the entrance to the abandoned yacht club on Cowes seafront tomorrow at midday. "Fine," I said, "I'll give him the fake cure and he'll give me your baby. By the time he figures out the cure is fake your baby will be safe with GRID and Blade will be on his way to being locked up. This time tomorrow all this drama will be over." "You promise you won't bring Tinsley and the other GRID soldiers?" said Mia, "I know Jon's going to get locked up eventually, but not tomorrow. Just give him the chance to do the right thing and hand my daughter over  and then let him have some time. He doesn't know the cure is fake. Just let him have a day as a free man before you get Tinsley and the soldiers on to him. Promise me, Luke. Promise me. It'll just be you and Jon tomorrow yeah? Promise me." "Mia," I gently said, placing my hands reassuringly on her shoulders, "You don't need to worry. Everything's going to be alright." I gave Mia a hug and she left. Mum and Auntie Meryl asked what was going on but I told them to mind their own business.

All being well Mia's baby will be away from Blade, and Blade will think he's got a cure and all of this drama will be over but I am going to see Tinsley tomorrow morning and tell him that I'm meeting Blade. I know I've given Mia the impression that I won't tell Tinsley I'm meeting Blade tomorrow, but first thing tomorrow morning I'm going to GRID HQ to tell Tinsley everything. I'm not keeping secrets from Tinsley. It's more than my life is worth, and Blade has seriously lost he plot to such an extent that he needs to be locked up. Tinsley will probably send loads of soldiers to secretly monitor me and Blade meeting, and when he hands me the baby, the soldier will grab him. I know Mia won't be happy, but needs must. This sh*t needs sorting out. I don't like lying to Mia like this but technically I haven't lied to her. She wanted me to promise I wouldn't tell Tinsley. I told her everything would be OK. I didn't actually make her any promises and to be honest I don't know if I fully trust her not to say something to Blade and warn him about what's coming. I know Mia will be p*ssed off with me but I'll deal with that. She'll get over it.

This time tomorrow all this drama will be over.
